Male and female tanner crabs gather in football field size aggregation 4 ft high. Millions of crab.females release their eggs. These pods of crab are thought to be defensive against cod and halibut predation.However extremely vulnerable to trawl gear. "One tow could wipe out a population" remarked a crab biologist on board.
