EVs out on the range
The most common question that comes up when discussing electric vehicles is, "How far will it go?" This subject is once again in the headlines as it appears many manufactures are relying on misleading range numbers that make their EVs seem more appealing than they might otherwise be. One manufacture stands out as boasting range figures that don't hold up under real world testing. To spare embarrassment, we’ll just say their name starts with a "T." On average, real world testing for the "T" brand was short of the EPA estimate by around 12%. That means they get anywhere from 25-40 miles less on a charge than what is claimed. That's significant when you consider another brand's EPA range estimates were underestimated by as much as 30%. Check out the article I’ve linked here for a list.
In a competitive market a consumer can easily be misled into buying one vehicle and excluding another. What's more concerning is these ratings come from the EPA and are supposed to be obtained by an objective measure.
In this increasingly competitive market, the Mercedes EQS450 sedan is the 2nd highest performer in overall "real world" range, coming in at 395 miles on a single charge. This is more impressive when you consider this is a full-sized vehicle loaded with amenities. Mercedes is currently offering four EVs with pricing starting in the 60s
