The headlamp is there for a reason. 🔦

Once the exterior pieces come off, technicians can end up working in areas that were never meant to see much daylight.

In this photo, the rear of the vehicle is opened up enough to expose wiring, bare metal, mounting points, and the spaces behind the exterior panels.

That light on the technician’s forehead puts light exactly where he is looking while leaving both hands free for the work.

This is also why a vehicle can look more taken apart halfway through a collision repair than it did when it arrived.

Sometimes getting behind the damaged area is how you learn what the impact actually reached.

The outside tells part of the story.

This is the point where “I’ve got it” becomes “we’ve got it.” 🔧

Three members of our team are underneath this liftgate, controlling the weight and getting the panel into position.

One is supporting the middle.

Two are working from the sides.

There is even a genuine-parts box waiting on the floor nearby, because getting one big piece into place is usually only part of the job.

Collision repair has plenty of precise work.

Some of it also requires another set of hands.

The repair may be finished. The water hose still has a job. 💦

Before a vehicle heads back to its owner, cleaning the exterior gets shop dust and residue off the surface and gives the team another chance to look over the vehicle.

And this particular color is not interested in hiding much.

Black paint will show you the one spot you thought you already got.

So you look again.

It is one of those final jobs that does not involve repairing a panel, but it still matters when the vehicle is getting ready to leave the shop.
