This is a great opportunity for Duck!

Contact us at 252-255-2030 if any additional services are needed 🦆

The Town of Duck is committed to being a strong environmental steward and protecting the natural resources that make our community special. Every day actions can have a significant impact on our groundwater, waterways, wildlife, and coastal environment.

For the second time, the Town is offering **Healthy Tanks, Happy Banks**, a program that gives Duck property owners the opportunity to learn more about their septic systems and take steps to help protect their property and Duck’s coastal environment.

Eligible property owners can receive a complimentary, non-invasive septic inspection at no cost. Inspections are expected to begin in mid-October, after the Jazz Festival. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Big shoutout to Jim, Charles, and Colton for putting in the work today! 💪 Our crew was out helping the The City of Elizabeth City, NC pump and clean lift stations.

A lift station is an underground holding basin (called a wet well) with pumps that collects wastewater in flat or low-lying areas where gravity alone can't move it, then "lifts" it up to a higher elevation so it can continue flowing toward the treatment plant. Over time, sludge, grease, and grit build up in the well and must be periodically pumped out and cleaned to keep the pumps running and prevent backups or overflows.

This is the kind of behind-the-scenes work that keeps a community running smoothly. Proud to serve the folks of northeastern NC and the Outer Banks.

🚽 Don't Forget Your Septic Filter! 🚽

Did you know your septic tank might have an effluent filter that needs regular cleaning?

This little component does a big job — it stops solids from escaping into your drain field, which can save you thousands in repairs down the road.

Why it matters:
✅ A clogged filter can cause backups into your home
✅ A protected drain field lasts longer (and costs less to replace!)
✅ Regular cleaning = fewer surprise emergencies

Most experts recommend checking your filter every 6-12 months. If it's been a while (or you're not sure when it was last done, or if you even have one), give us a call — we'll take care of it!

🇺🇸 Holiday Guests = Holiday Stress on Your Septic System 🏖️

With family and friends filling up the house this 4th of July week, your septic system is working overtime too — and it's one of the most common times we get emergency calls.
A few tips to keep your system happy while the house is full:

💧 Space out water usage — Try to avoid running the dishwasher, washer, and multiple showers all at once. Spreading it out gives your system time to keep up.

🚫 No flushable wipes — Even the ones labeled "flushable" don't break down like toilet paper. They're one of the top causes of backups, especially with extra guests using the bathroom.

🚽 Pro tip: Rent a portable toilet or restroom trailer! Hosting a big holiday get-together? Adding a portable toilet for the party is one of the easiest ways to take the strain off your personal system — and keep things running smoothly for the rest of the week.

Planning ahead is always the best move — get your system serviced before the holiday rush hits. But if something does go wrong, we're ready to respond fast.
