Say 392 at a car meet and most people immediately think Chrysler. International Harvester had its own 392, and it was built for pulling weight instead of winning stoplight races.

This 1972 Travelall 1110 used International’s truck chassis and could be ordered with the company’s 304, 345 or 392 cubic inch V8. The 392 was an International SV engine, completely unrelated to Chrysler’s 392 Hemi. It delivered the low speed torque expected from an engine designed by a company that built working trucks and farm equipment.

The fourth generation Travelall ran from 1969 through 1975. It offered four real passenger doors, three row seating and available four wheel drive while still being capable of towing and farm work. International had already introduced a four door Travelall back in 1957, long before the term SUV became everyday language.

The Suburban lasted longer and Ford sold far more family trucks. That does not make either one tougher than this. The Travelall was built like working equipment because that is exactly what International Harvester understood.
