Nobody cares about parts until they’re the reason you’re stuck on the side of the road.
I get it, money’s tight sometimes and the cheap part fits your budget today. No judgment there.

But cheap parts don’t fail because of bad luck. They’re built with thinner materials and no real quality testing. So when they break down, you’re not just paying for the part again. You’re covering a tow, a missed day of work, maybe a bigger repair because that failure took something else with it.

If the cheap part is what you can afford right now, that’s real. Just know what you’re trading. If you can stretch for quality, it usually pays for itself by not failing on you twice.

Had a lot of new faces in the shop this week, and it’s always a good reminder of why we do things the way we do.

One customer mentioned today that he’d never had a shop walk him through everything going on with his car, big or small, the way we do. That stuck with us, because that’s exactly the point. We’re not just fixing what you came in for. We’re checking everything and telling you the full picture, no matter how minor.

That kind of trust is what keeps people coming back, and it’s what we hope every new face who walks through our door experiences too.

We've noticed something lately, and we wanted to talk about it honestly.

More than once, someone's come in asking us to take a quick look at something, diagnose an issue, or "just help out" for free. Often it's paired, without any irony, with mentions of an upcoming vacation, a new purchase, or some other discretionary spend.

We get it. Nobody likes paying for something that feels small. But diagnostic work isn't small to us. It's years of training, the right tools, and time we're not spending on someone else's car. That's the product we sell, not a courtesy we hand out before you decide we're worth paying.

Here's what we'll always do: give you a straight answer about what's wrong, what it costs, and why. No upsell, no guesswork. Here's what we won't do: treat that expertise as free because it's convenient to ask for.

📸 Had a no-start come into the shop. Found zero fuel pressure but the pump itself tested fine. Dropped the tank to take a closer look and found the culprit: the pump was completely clogged.

If we fixed your car and something’s still not right, we want to know.

A customer felt something was off after a repair from another shop, took it back, and couldn’t get anyone to take a second look. They were turned away.

We don’t operate that way. If you still have a problem after we’ve worked on your car, bring it back. We’ll get to the bottom of it, whether it’s related to the original repair or something new entirely. In this case, we found the issue traced back to parts that hadn’t been installed correctly. Once we diagnosed it properly, the original shop ended up reimbursing the customer for our time.

Elliot put it simply: “They have earned a new customer.”

Still riding the high from yesterday. We’re in the car today headed off for a weekend of rest and relaxation, but before we fully unplug, we wanted to share two reflections with you.

1. Done is better than perfect.

Yupheng originally wanted to hold our grand opening last year, right after we wrapped up most of the renovations. I just never felt ready. Then this past January, we finally looked at each other and said, let’s do it. Let’s host the card exchange and have our grand opening.
There was so much I felt we “missed.” No cake, no cupcakes or cookies with our logo. No decor to speak of. No backdrop for photos with a sign to tag us. I could keep listing things. But with everything happening in our lives right now, we knew how much it would mean just to hold this day. It ended up being exactly the mid-year lift we needed to carry us through the rest of the year.

2. Is there even such a thing as self-made?

Everyone who showed up for us yesterday, and everyone who couldn’t make it but sent a message anyway, all of you helped get us here. It really does take a village, and we felt that village around us yesterday. Thank you to our family and friends, to the Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Hmong Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce, and to Global Eats Matt Luangla.

Two conversations today reminded me why we do this.

The first was with a customer who'd had a repair done at his old shop. The problem was supposedly "fixed" until it came back a week later. He has family members who are already customers of ours, and they told him to give us a try. After we took care of him, he said something that stuck with me: "You have a customer for life."

The second was with a new customer who told us she's been recommending us to everyone she knows and that she's praying for our success.

We share stories like these because we have a clear idea of who we're building this for: the customer who wants one shop they can trust with everything, not five different mechanics for five different problems. We think being upfront about that, and about how we operate, is part of earning that trust. We're not afraid to say (and do) what we believe in.

Moments like these are why we're in this and why we're going to keep showing up, doing the work right, and earning that trust one vehicle at a time.
