Farnam's Automotive Repair

10/04/2026

The code tells you WHERE the misfire was detected... NOT which part to replace.

It's easy to look at a diagnostic code and guess spark plugs, coils, or injectors. But with a whole list of potential culprits ranging from carbon buildup to vacuum leaks, the "Parts Cannon" approach is an expensive gamble.

At Farnam's Automotive Repair, we don't just throw parts at it. We test it before we yeet parts at it! Diagnosis saves time, saves money, and keeps you on the road.

Meanwhile at Farnam's ......

Well ... I suppose it's time I introduce you to CELvin.

You know ... that little orange light that randomly shows up on your dashboard uninvited, refuses to explain exactly what he wants, and then expects everybody else to figure it out.

Yep! That's CELvin.

He's dramatic.
He's persistent.
He has absolutely no respect for your bank account.
And his favorite diagnostic strategy is: "I dunno .. replace something expensive?"

Nobody invited him. Nobody knows exactly what he wants, and apparently he has nowhere else to be.

CELvin has developed a habit of loitering around Farnam's, harassing customers, and offering unsolicited automotive advice that nobody asked for.

His specialties include:

"It's probably the O2 sensor."
"Just clear the code."
"It went away, so it fixed itself."
"Google says you need a catalytic converter."
"You should probably replace that."

And somewhere along the way, somebody inevitably decides the best way to get rid of him is with the Parts Cannon.

Coils! Sensors! Catalytic converter! Injectors!

FIRE EVERYTHING UNTIL CELvin GOES AWAY!

Unfortunately, CELvin actually comes back ... Because here's the thing:

CELvin isn't the diagnosis!

That little orange light is telling you the vehicle's computer detected something that needs attention. The code gives us information. Then the actual diagnostic work begins.

Unfortunately for CELvin, I'm the boss around here!

So while CELvin is wandering around giving bad advice and encouraging questionable financial decisions, I'll be over here doing what I've always done:

Testing. Diagnosing. Asking questions. Finding the actual root problem.

You'll probably start seeing CELvin pop up around Farnam's from time to time.

Sometimes he'll be obvious; sometimes that little s**t will just be lurking somewhere in the background.

And I can almost guarantee that when he appears ... he'll have something stupid to say.

Welcome to the Farnam's universe, CELvin.

P.S. If you spot CELvin hiding in future posts, call his little ass out in the comments!

"People ask how I stay so active..."

Truth is, my kids just like to keep my heart rate permanently monitored by falling in love with the highest-adrenaline hobbies available! 😅📈❤️‍🔥

Here’s Kay riding her new motorcycle with Tay right there in her corner supporting her every step of the way. From hand-building drift cars to two wheels on the pavement, watching these two back each other in everything they love is everything to me (even if it gives me a few extra gray hairs). 💅🏍️💨

Who else has kids whose favorite hobby is testing Mom's blood pressure? Drop a comment below!

Did you really think one video was enough? 😏

Part 2 of Tay doing what she does best in her hand-built drift car with Kay along for the ride. There’s nothing quite like watching your kids master a craft, push limits, and have a absolute blast doing it.

Turn the sound up for this one!

It's a Scorcher in Central Texas Today!

When the shop floor hits 118°F, even the wrenches need a break! Since I've finished up all of today's scheduled service and repairs, we're shutting down early this afternoon to prevent heat exhaustion and gear up for tomorrow.

Note for Walk-ins: We are closed for the remainder of today, but I will be back bright and early tomorrow morning, refreshed and ready to diagnose and repair!

Stay safe and keep those engines (and yourselves!) cool!
