Down on the sidewalk!
After battling bronchitis and related symptoms for four days, I had to move to a new Airbnb. The Uber stop to accomplish this was half a block away on the corner. The effort to get there was exhausting and I started feeling faint.
You know that feeling.l. Suddenly you are sweaty all over. And a liittle weak and your field of vision starts to go dark around the edges. The next step is to loose consciousness and make contact with the ground. The result could be a concussion or at least a contusion where your forehead meets the bricks on the sidewalk?
I had a seat on a window ledge. Helped a little, but the feelings persisted.
Well, heck. If I was going to go down,I might as well go down under my own power. At least I could avoid the concussion and contusion! So down I went. Now I was sitting on a not-too- clean sidewalk, on a busy corner, in a foreign city. Just how you picture your vacation,right.?
Thankfully iit all worked out. Three people stopped to help. All spoke English. The Uber arrived. I got lots of help with the luggage. Andi was off to the new Bnb and had a renewed faith in mankind. It's all good!

Death by street traffic!
Amtsterdam-the city of bicycles, and walkers, and cars, and trams, and birds! All of which inhabit the streets and can run into you at any moment! Just because you slowed down in mid stride to look at a....building, or a bicycle, or a tram, or to people watch, or because you heard a car...! In other words, the very thing that is fascinating is also life threatening! And I mean bikes, thousands of them. Ridden by men in flip flops -- tall men, the kind that would cause serious damage if they ran into you, and women in office attire wearing heels...on bikes. Don't expect them to brake for you! They have places to be and perhaps they are late somehow. Any way, you, and I mean you, are in the way???
