We’re putting together our shirt order and need your help getting an estimated headcount!
I created a quick Google Form so everyone can let us know which shirt design(s) you’d be interested in and how many you may want. This is not a commitment to purchase yet — we’re just trying to get an accurate estimate so we can finalize pricing and quantities.
The more shirts we’re able to order, the better we can keep the cost for everyone!
Please take a minute to fill out the form, even if you’re only interested in one shirt. Feel free to select multiple designs if there’s more than one you’d like!

We have a lot in the works, and we’re really excited to start putting it all together! 🎗️

We’re having some special edition T-shirts made by our buddy Steve George that will be available for purchase at Ron & Sons Towing in Kenvil. Right now, we’re trying to get an idea of how many people would be interested so we can plan accordingly.

But these shirts are going to mean a lot more than just something to wear.

We will be doing a Liver Cancer Awareness shirt in loving memory of my mother, who passed away from this horrible disease. This one is extremely personal and close to our hearts, and we’re also having one of our trucks done up in support of Liver Cancer Awareness.

We will also be doing a Juvenile Diabetes Awareness shirt in honor and support of those affected by this disease, including members of our own Ron & Sons family. We will also have another truck done up specifically for Juvenile Diabetes Awareness.

Steve George will be helping us bring all of these shirts to life, and as everything comes together, our goal is to eventually donate a portion of the proceeds to organizations and foundations supporting these causes.

This is only the beginning. We have two trucks being done, multiple shirts in the works, and a lot of ideas that we’re excited to bring to life while supporting causes that have personally impacted our family and our drivers.

For now, we’re looking for a HEAD COUNT! If you would be interested in purchasing one or both of these shirts, please comment below or let us know so we can get an idea of how many we’ll need.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Ron & Sons and the causes that mean so much to our family. ❤️

More details and designs coming soon!

Please take this candle, save it, and share it on your Facebook and any other social media you have. Help us light up Facebook in DJ’s memory. Let every flame be a reminder that he was here, that he mattered, and that he will never be forgotten.

DJ was only 24 years old when his life was tragically taken while doing his job on the side of the road. A son. A brother. A friend. A coworker. A hero to so many. One year later, the pain is still just as real, and our fight for justice and stronger protections for roadside workers continues.

Every share keeps his name alive. Every candle reminds the world that DJ’s life mattered. Every light is a promise that we will never stop fighting for him.

Please pass this candle on. Fill Facebook with light. Say his name. Remember his smile. Stand with us for Justice for DJ.

Forever 24.
Forever loved.
Forever remembered.

One year. One whole entire year.

Three hundred and sixty five days.

An entire year has passed, and somehow it still feels like yesterday.

There are moments in life that divide your world into “before” and “after.” July 2, 2025, is that day for us. Before that morning, DJ was here. He was laughing, working, making plans, living his life like any other 24-year-old. After that morning, nothing has ever been the same.

At 11:54 AM, my phone lit up with a notification that a tow truck driver had been hit on the side of I-287. I can still remember exactly where I was. I remember the feeling in the pit of my stomach before I even knew who it was. I immediately started texting my family. Everyone started calling each other. We were all trying to figure out what had happened. Then came the silence that none of us will ever forget. No one could get ahold of DJ.

That silence became every family’s worst nightmare.

At 11:35 AM that morning, DJ was doing exactly what he loved to do. He was helping someone. He was out on the side of the road doing his job, a job that so many people take for granted until they need help themselves. His emergency lights were activated. He was in his safety vest. He was following the law. HE WAS IN THE SHOULDER. He was doing everything right.

Yet someone failed to do the one thing they were required to do.

Move over.

Slow down.

Pay attention.

Instead, in a matter of seconds, a young man with his entire life ahead of him was violently struck on the side of Interstate 287.

We all rushed to Morristown Medical Center, refusing to believe what we were hearing. We waited. We cried. We prayed harder than we have ever prayed before. We searched through every piece of footage we could find, desperately trying to understand how something so horrific could happen. We begged for a miracle. We held onto hope with everything we had because giving up on DJ was never an option.

Then, at 6:09 PM, our hearts were shattered forever.

DJ was pronounced dead.

Twenty-four years old.

Twenty-four.

How is it possible that someone so full of life, so hardworking, so kind, so selfless, could simply be gone?

There are no words that truly describe what that moment felt like. It felt like the world stopped spinning. Like the air had been ripped out of our lungs. Like time froze while everyone else somehow kept moving. A family lost a son. Siblings lost a brother. Friends lost someone they considered family. Coworkers lost one of their own. The towing community lost one of the best.

And all because someone didn’t move over.

This wasn’t just a tragedy.

This wasn’t just another headline.

This wasn’t “an accident.”

This was preventable.

Every single day for the past year, we’ve lived with the reality that DJ isn’t coming home. His truck is still. His voice is silent. His chair is empty. His laughter is gone. Every birthday, every holiday, every family gathering, every milestone has had one person missing. The pain doesn’t disappear after a year. It doesn’t get easier. You simply learn how to carry a heartbreak that never goes away.

People often ask how we keep going.

The answer is simple.

Because we have to.

Because DJ deserves better.

Because no other family should ever have to receive the phone call that changed our lives forever.

This past year has not only been filled with grief, it has been filled with purpose. We have stood before legislators. We have shared DJ’s story over and over again, even when it hurts to relive every detail. We have advocated for stronger Slow Down Move Over laws. We have fought for safer roads. We have fought for every tow truck operator, police officer, firefighter, EMT, utility worker, DOT employee, and every single person who works inches away from traffic.

And we are not done.

We will never stop fighting for DJ.

We will never stop fighting for stricter laws.

We will never stop fighting to make our roads safer.

We will never stop telling people his story.

We will never stop saying his name.

Now, one year later, as we continue fighting in court, we pray for accountability. We pray that the person responsible for taking DJ’s life is held accountable for the choices that were made that day. Nothing will ever bring DJ back. No verdict will erase the pain. No sentence will fill the empty space he left behind. But accountability matters. Justice matters. Because DJ’s life mattered.

He was not just another tow truck driver.

He was not just another statistic.

He was Daniel “DJ” Ortiz.

He was someone’s child.

Someone’s brother.

Someone’s best friend.

Someone’s family.

Someone who mattered.

Today, we ask everyone reading this to do one simple thing.

The next time you see flashing lights on the side of the road, think of DJ.

Think of the family that has spent the last year trying to put the pieces of their lives back together.

Think of the hospital room where we prayed for a miracle.

Think of the phone call no family should ever receive.

Think of the funeral for a 24-year-old who should have had decades left to live.

Then move over.

Slow down.

Pay attention.

One decision can save a life.

DJ, there isn’t a single day that goes by that you aren’t missed. We wish more than anything that this day never happened. We wish we could hear your laugh one more time, see your smile one more time, hug you one more time, tell you how much you are loved one more time.

Your life changed ours forever, and your legacy continues to save lives.

We miss you beyond words.

We love you beyond measure.

And we promise you this…

As long as we have a voice, we will use it.

As long as there are roadside workers risking their lives, we will continue demanding change.

We will never stop fighting for you.

We will never stop saying your name.

Justice for DJ isn’t just a hashtag.

It’s a promise.

Forever 24.

Forever loved.

Forever missed.

Forever our reason to fight.

We’ll drag the chains from here … 💛⛓️🖤

Happy Heavenly Birthday, DJ 💛🖤

Today hurts in a way that words will never fully be able to explain. Your birthday should look so different. We should be celebrating with you here, laughing with you, taking pictures with you, giving you a hard time, making memories, and reminding you how loved you are. Instead, we are celebrating you from down here, trying to find comfort in the memories you left behind and trying to hold ourselves together on a day that reminds us just how unfair this all is.

DJ, you were so much more than a tow operator. You were so much more than an employee. You were family. You were a son, a friend, a brother to so many, and someone who left a mark on every single person lucky enough to know you. You had a heart that people do not come across often. You had a way of making people laugh, showing up, and being someone others could count on. Your absence is felt in the shop, on the road, at every event, and in every moment where we stop and think, “DJ should be here.”

It is still so hard to understand how someone with so much life left to live could be taken so suddenly. You had so many more birthdays to celebrate, so many more memories to make, and so many more people to impact. That is what makes days like today so painful. We are not just grieving who we lost. We are grieving all the moments you deserved to have.

But even through the pain, we will continue to honor you. We will continue to say your name. We will continue to tell your story. We will continue to fight for change, for awareness, and for every roadside worker who deserves to make it home. Your life mattered. Your work mattered. Your story matters. And we will never let the world forget that.

Today, we celebrate you, DJ. We celebrate your life, your heart, your laugh, your loyalty, your impact, and the love that still surrounds your name. We miss you more than words could ever explain, and we love you beyond measure.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, DJ. Forever 24. Forever our brother. Forever our highway hero. We will forever drag the chains from here. 💛🖤

Here is a dash cam video from the side of Route 80 showing one of our service operators working a service call alongside NJDOT and New Jersey State Police.

Even with emergency lights everywhere, flares out, and first responders standing on the shoulder, there were still drivers in the lane directly next to them who were not moving over.

Yes, traffic was moving slowly.
But that does not change the law or the danger.

When people stay in the lane closest to an active roadside scene, it leaves almost no room for the men and women outside of those vehicles doing their jobs. One distracted driver, one sudden drift, one person looking at their phone for two seconds, and lives can change forever.

Tow companies, service operators, DOT/roadside workers, police officers, EMS, and firefighters deserve to go home safely at the end of every shift.

After losing DJ, seeing people continue to ignore Move Over laws is heartbreaking. This is exactly why these laws exist. Not because it’s convenient, but because roadside workers are put in danger every single day.

If you see flashing lights:
Move over if you can.
Slow down if you cannot.
Pay attention.
Give roadside workers the space they deserve.

It takes seconds to move over.
It takes a lifetime to live with what happens when someone doesn’t.
