As roundabouts continue to be installed in Kentwood, here are a few important facts to help keep our community informed and safe:
❌ MYTH: Roundabouts are more dangerous than traditional intersections.
✅ FACT: Roundabouts significantly reduce serious and fatal crashes by lowering speeds and reducing high-impact collision points.
❌ MYTH: Roundabouts cause more traffic delays.
✅ FACT: In Kentwood and across the country, roundabouts are designed to improve traffic flow and often reduce delays by allowing continuous movement instead of stop-and-go traffic.
❌ MYTH: They are confusing to drive through.
✅ FACT: Roundabouts follow a few simple rules:
• Slow down as you approach
• Yield to traffic already in the roundabout
• Enter when it is clear
• Use your turn signal when exiting
❌ MYTH: Roundabouts lead to more crashes.
✅ FACT: While minor low-speed crashes may still occur, roundabouts greatly reduce the risk of serious crashes such as head-on and T-bone collisions.
