Making the next set of soft jaws on the new Tormach 1100MX for the RC L-1011's Aluminum drag brace that will lock the nose gear into position.

Soft jaws are required to hold a complex part in a specific position in order to mill a portion of the part. The drag brace has 3 operations and two sets of soft jaws. You can see a 3D printed prototype of the brace and how the soft jaws hold it in place for a finishing operation.

Since the Reel I posted is edited at Ludicrous Speed, here are some stills from the 1:5th scale Boeing 787-9 Landing Gear 3D Printed project.

This was a commissioned project that popped up late last month for a global consultancy who needed it as a center piece for their augmented reality booth at the 2024 Farnborough International Air Show in the UK.

This was made at break-neck speed. I wished I had had more time to work on it to really get all the little details just right, but overall the project turned out nicely.

If you've got a model you'd like to have made, feel free to reach out, would love to hear from you.

This 1:5th scale 3D printed Boeing 787-9 Main Landing Gear Model was commissioned by an global consultancy for the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow to present new Augmented Reality possibilities with the Apple Vision Pro.

The model stands 810mm tall with movable strut, wheels, torque links, and Hydraulic lines that can be disconnected.

This scale model is used as a functional prop to demonstrate various use aerospace use case applications such as training, maintenance, prototyping, and product development.

It's definitely been one of those awesome projects that randomly pop up that you just have to say YES to.

Structural parts are printed from Polymaker PA6-CF (excellent to work with) tires are printed from Prusament Flex80 resin on the Phrozen Mega 8kS in addition to PA6-CF testing tires. The Bambu X1C printed all of the structural parts.

Looking forward to working on future projects like this.

The rod style mounting idea for the linear servo didn't work out as planned. There was too much slack in the system allowing excess movement in the gear. A redesign was in order and solved that problem.
