Protect your boat from costly winter damage and make sure it’s ready for the next boating season!
CJ Marine’s Basic Winterization Includes:
- Add fuel stabilizer to the tank and run the engine long enough to circulate treated fuel.
- Run engine to operating temp and fog the engine with storage fogging oil.
- Drain water from all systems — engine, ballast, pumps, live wells, washdown systems, etc.
- Inspect the boat — look for cracks, leaks, corrosion, damaged hoses, belts, and loose fittings.
- Spray the engine down with rust inhibitor to protect surfaces from condensation damage.
Pro Tips: Winter Boat Prep Checklist
- Change the engine oil & filter — old oil can contain contaminants that sit in the engine over winter. (Call for pricing)
- Replace your boat impeller every 100–300 hours of operation or once every 1–3 years. (Call for pricing)
- Check the battery — fully charge it, disconnect it if appropriate, and store it somewhere protected if recommended.
- Protect the interior — remove all items including cushions, bumpers, lines and valuables, leave all compartments open for ventilation.
- Clean the boat thoroughly — wash, dry, and remove dirt, leaves, and grime.
- Remove the drain plug - so water and moisture can drain out.
- Cover the boat properly — use a quality fitted cover and make sure water can drain off.
- Check the trailer — inspect tires, wheel bearings, lights, brakes, and straps before storing.
- Store it somewhere secure and dry — and check on it periodically during the winter.
