Finding new vehicle damage is never fun, but what you do next can make a difference.

If you notice it right away:

📸 Take photos of the damage and the surrounding area.
📝 Look around for any notes or witnesses.
🏪 Ask the business if security cameras may have captured what happened.
📞 Contact your insurance company to talk through your options. If it appears to be a hit-and-run or your insurer requests it, a police report may also be needed.

If you don’t notice it until days or weeks later:

📸 Take photos as soon as you find the damage.
📞 Contact your insurance company to see what coverage may apply.
🚗 Get a repair estimate so you know what your next step looks like.
