Tonight, at 11 p.m., people across Stephenville, Texas will stand in the dark holding candles.
They are waiting for Alejandra Franco to come home.
Alejandra was a member of the Tarleton State University Rodeo Team. On Thursday night, she was competing at the S.A.L.E. Arena in Alpine when she suffered injuries that would take her life.
What exactly happened in the arena has not been made public.
Tonight is not about that.
Tonight is about a young woman who is gone, and a family bringing her home for the last time.
At the family's request, Catholic Campus Ministry is asking Alejandra's friends, classmates, and anyone whose life she touched to gather outside Lacy Funeral Home in Stephenville.
Wear white. Bring a candle if you can.
When Alejandra arrives, they will form a tunnel of love around her family.
Tarleton State says she left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. In Alpine, the rodeo community is honoring her with purple ribbons all weekend.
One detail is making tonight even harder to bear.
Alejandra celebrated her birthday just one month ago.
Tonight, at 11 p.m., her people are lining the streets to welcome her home one final time.
If you are near Stephenville and want to stand with this family:
11 p.m.
Lacy Funeral Home
1380 N. Harbin Drive
If you cannot be there, you can still surround them from wherever you are.
Leave a prayer for Alejandra's family, friends, and teammates.
Rest in peace, Alejandra.
