Calhoun Speed Shop

Calhoun Speed Shop Classic Car and Boat Repair. Light welding and fabrication. I have been repairing cars for 25+ years most of which were made between 1932 and 1980.

The choices are many when it is time to have work performed on your antique and classic cars these days but you should always care who is working on your car. Why take your car to a shop that needs a computer to tell them what to fix in your car if it doesn't have a computer in it. I was taught by the best old school mechanics that passed down skills and knowledge not taught in the hotrod universi

ties we have today. I have brought vehicles back from the dead and done so many times with a small budget. I am tired of the way other shops approach repairing customers cars. I will tell you if I see any issues with your car but the decision is yours to repair them or not.

2020 was a tough year. On top of Covid taking its toll on our economy it also found its way to our home before anyone knew what it actually was. While some people were hoarding toilet paper we were finishing projects long overdue. Things I had to get accomplished to get them out of my way for good had been compiling for years. We also bought a couple pieces of equipment needed for the fab shop. Both our trucks got new engines and transmissions after moving everything back to Texas left them tired and severely worn. Things are about to get back to normal and we are optimistic about the future.

It has been such a busy year I totally forgot to update like I was trying to every week. I was ask to assist with a large project in California. Due to legal reasons I cannot say what the project was exactly. Due to this I got out of the habit of doing updates. We purchased a Discovery Bus to use as a part time living quarters while looking for our new home in Texas. After almost a year of searching we finally found what we wanted. It has truly been a roller coaster of a year. In the middle of all that I traded the old rv for a Harley. Blew up the engine in Wild Horses. Rebuilt it and had it running at the next Outlaw event. Traveled down to Houston and brought Overbored back home where it belongs. Built and repaired I don't know how many props. Am currently working on a custom upgrade for the haunt mobile and preparing for winter in a new house and shop. After almost 2.5 months of load after load we have most of our lives back in Texas. We are also currently working to get the house up in Broken Bow ready to rent and get settled in the new place here in Texas. I can finally get back to that Mustang project soon. I also committed myself to putting a good friends bike back together in his memory at his memorial today. If I survive this year I will survive most anything!

After careful thought and consideration we have moved the shop back to Texas. The new location will allow for more boat work and also put us back closer to our vendors. We look forward to growing the shop with better opportunities. The new hq is located in
Kaufman.

After degreaser and a pressure wash I can see some paint and metal. Tomorrow I fog the cylinders and turn it over a couple times before I package it up to drop off at the machine shop. The machinist really hates a greasy engine. Not making a hotrod with it but definitely intend to make it run like a new one.

After a thorough inspection it would be foolish to not rebuild the bullet while its out. After 45 years of use it is likely time since it has never been freshened up in all those years.

Back to working in the garage until next week. Gonna do some cleaning under the hood of the old mustang project. Started with removing the engine to inspect and clean everything while installing the new gaskets.
