2020 Ford Expedition – Cooling Fan & A/C Diagnosis 🔧
Vehicle came in with the cooling fans not operating, affecting proper A/C operation.
Using bidirectional controls, the PCM was able to command both Low and High Fan Speed, but the cooling fans did not respond. Further electrical testing revealed a blown 10A fuse supplying several related control circuits.
Instead of simply replacing the fuse, we tested the circuit to determine why the fuse had failed.
During the inspection, we found that the vehicle had previous collision repairs and the Active Grille Shutter wiring had been modified with an incorrect connector from another vehicle. The connector was wired incorrectly, causing the circuit to short and blow the fuse.
We identified the correct power, ground, and LIN communication circuits, restored the original connector and wiring configuration, replaced the fuse, and performed final active tests.
✅ Cooling fans operating correctly
✅ Low & High speed control restored
✅ Active Grille Shutter wiring corrected
✅ A/C system operation restored
A blown fuse is not always the problem — sometimes it’s the clue that leads you to the real problem.
