Are Motorcycle Tires a Ripoff? The Darkside Car Tire Experiment
Recently AMT was asked to mount a car tire on a customer heavy cruiser rim. The internet spawned a term for this practice as "Going to the dark side."
We know there are many folks who ascribe to this practice, wanting more mileage and less cost to their happy motorcycling miles. We at AMT do not favor using car tires on motorcycle applications. The attached video highlights some of the reasons why.
Personally, being sticklers for handling and not wanting compromises in that regard, none of our personal bikes will be fitted with car tires. We're well aware that many early bikes of almost half of the last century were fitted with flat faced treads that didn't have today's more rounded profiles. That said, motorcycles have dramatically increased in power and handling capability. Those factors alone, we think, beg for the best type of tread and profile available.
Due to a miscommunication before hand and In the case of this last customer car tire mount, we did consent to mounting, Seating the bead however, required the direct application of at least 110 P.S.I. The bead seat air pressure should typically never exceed the maximum cold inflation pressure moulded into the tire sidewall. This can be a potentially dangerous situation for the mounter.
For future reference and to our much appreciated clientele, AMT will not be mounting car tires on motorcycle rims. We apologize for any inconvenience, but we must also protect the interests of the Company and avoid potential liability issues.

Warmer weather is upon us. Keep in mind this can accelerate tire wear. Check those tires... tread depth... cracking/chunking... unusual wear or bulging, foreign objects... and, perhaps one of the most overlooked aspects - tire pressure!

Rick Mott recommended your company. He said to ask for Don, so here goes. I am looking for a 350x18 knobby tire for my Hodaka, a Ching Shin 755 is what I have used before and I understand Vee Rubber makes the 350x18 vintage style tire but I cant find either tire...Can youall help me....
