You've heard of "measure twice, cut once," and that applies to bends too!
Spring angle (or springback angle) is the elastic recovery that a material undergoes when forming pressure is released. Meaning that achieving "X" doesn't mean bending to "X"
On top of that, spring angle changes daily. Metal may have a memory, but it almost never behaves the same day after day. To combat this, we perform a bend test for every material we plan to fabricate with every single day. Some days are right on the money. Other days like today require small tweaks to get us in the zone.
The little things make the biggest difference. 2 degrees doesn't sound like much until its compounded in a complex part. 3 bends later and you're now 6 degrees off in the end. This also applies to a single bent part that mates with another single bent part. It never seems like much until they're all stacked together!
