We Made It Look Like a Million Bucks… Then Proved You Don't Need a New Motor to Go Fast

When a used golf cart rolls into Beaver Creek Golf Carts, we don't just clean it up β€” we transform it.

Custom paint job. Lift kit. Lights. The works.

But here's where it gets REALLY interesting…

The stock EZ-Go RXV motor and controller are set at 12.5 mph from the factory. Most people assume that's it. That's the ceiling.

We thought differently.

We reprogrammed the controller and took it for a test drive. The results? You're going to want to see this for yourself.

How fast do YOU think we got it to go?

πŸ”Ή 20 mph
πŸ”Ή 25 mph
πŸ”Ή 30 mph
πŸ”Ή OVER 30 πŸ‘€

Drop your guess in the comments, then watch the video to find out!

Here's the real takeaway: before you spend money on a brand-new motor and controller to make your golf cart go faster, you might already have everything you need sitting right under the seat.

The EZ-Go RXV motor and controller are not only capable of more than you think, they're also fully diagnosable, easy to service, and built to keep your cart running at its best. Aftermarket swaps? Not so much.

Why spend more to get less reliability?

Watch the full video πŸ‘‡ and then ask yourself, "Do I already have the better deal?"

If you've ever had a golf cart that suddenly dies on you in the middle of a drive, clearly you have a problem. That's exactly the situation the service team at Beaver Creek Golf Carts ran into with a 2025 EX1 engine on an EZ-Go Valor. And what they found is a great reminder of why keeping an eye on your golf cart engine oil really matters.

Master Technician Chase walked through the whole diagnostic process, and it's honestly a pretty wild story. The customer's complaint was twofold: the cart sounded like it was sucking air, and at one point it just died completely, forcing them to push it home. Not exactly what you expect from a 2025 golf cart.

Once the cart got into the shop, Chase started with the basics. He hooked up the handheld diagnostic tool and went through all the fault codes, both current and historical, along with general engine monitoring. Nothing jumped out right away, so the codes weren't giving a clear answer on their own.

So Chase did what any good technician does, he took the cart out for a test drive to try to recreate the problem. And that's when things got interesting. As he made a left turn and glanced back, he was engulfed in the biggest puff of white smoke he says he's ever seen. He couldn't even see through it while driving! He let the golf cart cool down, took it out again, and the same thing happened. That pattern told him something important: this issue seemed to be tied to heat, meaning it likely got worse the longer the engine ran and warmed up.

After talking it through with the other technicians in the shop, they landed on a simple but crucial idea: check the oil. Heat plus heavy smoke is a classic sign that something's off with the engine oil, either the type, the amount, or both.

When they pulled the dipstick, they didn't even need to look closely; oil was visible all the way up to the top of the engine. That's a big red flag. Normally, when you check your golf cart engine oil, you should only see oil on the dipstick itself, sitting right between the hash marks. You should never see oil visibly pooled up near the top like that.

As it turned out, this EZ-Go EX1 engine, which only requires about 1.4 quarts of oil, had roughly three and a half quarts in it. That's about a quart and a half to two quarts more than it should have had, way overfilled.

The takeaway here is simple for any golf cart owner: when you're checking or changing your golf cart engine oil, make sure the level lands right between the hash marks on the dipstick, use the correct oil type, and stick to the correct amount.

What's That Sound Coming From My Golf Cart? Master Tech Chase Breaks Down Golf Cart Noises

If you have ever driven your golf cart and thought "what in the world is that noise," you are not alone. Master Tech Chase from Beaver Creek Golf Carts has heard every version of this question from customers, and he is here to put your mind at ease about the most common golf cart noises.

First up is the classic WRRRRR sound. Chase compares it to the noise big trucks make as they roll past you on the highway. If your golf cart is lifted, this sound tends to be more noticeable. Even a standard, non lifted cart will make a similar noise from the tires, just a bit quieter. Either way, this is completely normal and nothing to stress over.

Next is the WINNNEEE noise that seems to grow louder the faster you go. This one comes straight from the AC motor doing its job. Chase explains that this whine is simply part of how the motor operates, and it is expected behavior rather than a warning sign.

Then there is the chatter you might hear coming from the back of the cart. This sound is created by the limited slip differential, which sends power to both tires so your cart can handle turns smoothly while keeping traction. That chatter is just the differential working exactly as designed.

One more factor Chase points out is seating position. Gas golf carts with insulation under the seat will muffle a lot of these everyday sounds, while carts without insulation tend to be a little louder overall.

So when should you actually worry? Chase is clear on this one. A screeching or grinding sound is not normal and should not be ignored. That kind of noise means it is time to call in the professionals.

If you notice anything unusual with your cart, reach out to Beaver Creek Golf Carts. They have three convenient locations ready to help.

Joliet: 801 Rowell Ave, Joliet, IL 60433, (815) 723-9455 Braidwood: 401 N Hickory St, Braidwood, IL 60408, (815) 458-6345 Peru: 41 N 30th Rd, Peru, IL 61354, (815) 224-3145

Ever since 2005, this customer's golf cart had never given them a reason to worry about the golf cart solenoid. Two decades of trouble-free driving. Until it finally quit working. Rather than call Beaver Creek Golf Carts service department, they figured a golf cart solenoid was a golf cart solenoid, and ordered a cheaper one online.

The part arrived with no name, no brand, no markings whatsoever. They ignored the warning signs, but they installed the cheap golf cart solenoid anyway. It worked... for about two weeks.

Then the golf cart solenoid died again. This time the customer brought the golf cart straight to Beaver Creek Golf Carts to have it fixed properly.

We installed a genuine EZ-Go golf cart solenoid. It costs a bit more than that unmarked one from the internet, sure. But an EZ-Go golf cart solenoid is designed to go the distance. Probably another 20+ years of dependable use.

Moral of the story: buying the cheapest golf cart solenoid online might save you money today, but it'll cost you more down the road with repeat repairs.

For parts and service you can trust the first time, visit Beaver Creek Golf Carts in Peru, IL, Braidwood, IL, or Joliet, IL. We're located at 801 Rowell Ave, Joliet, IL 60433.
