An advance directive puts your wishes about your own care in writing, so the people who love you aren't guessing on a hard day.

It isn't only for people facing a procedure, and it isn't a document about dying it's a document about being heard.

We keep information and forms available for our patients. Ask us, or start at khccathlab.com.

Most people scheduling a heart procedure don't know what they don't know.

How long will I be here? Who drives me home? What about my morning medications? What if I think of something at nine o'clock the night before?

You shouldn't have to come up with those questions on your own. Our team is here to walk through them with you — and if something occurs to you after you hang up, call back. Twice, if you need to.

No question is too small, and you will never be a bother.

🫀Getting outside is one of the best ways to stay active, but summer heat can place extra stress on your cardiovascular system.
During UV Awareness Month, remember that protecting yourself from the sun also helps protect your heart.

Consider these heart-smart summer tips:

☀️ Exercise in the early morning or evening when temperatures are lower.

💧 Stay hydrated throughout the day, especially before outdoor activities.

🧴 Apply sunscreen and reapply as directed when spending extended time outside.

❤️ If you have heart disease, high blood pressure, or vascular disease, pay close attention to how you feel. Symptoms like dizziness, excessive fatigue, chest discomfort, or shortness of breath should never be ignored.

A little preparation goes a long way toward enjoying a safe, healthy summer.

☀️🫀Warm weather can cause your blood vessels to expand, making it more common to notice swelling in your feet, ankles, or legs.

While mild swelling can happen after spending time in the heat, persistent or worsening swelling may be a sign that your heart is working harder than it should.

Watch for:
👣 Swelling that doesn’t improve overnight
❤️ Shortness of breath
⚖️ Sudden weight gain
😴 Feeling unusually tired

If you notice these symptoms—especially if you have heart disease—don’t ignore them. Contact your healthcare provider for guidance.

Your heart deserves extra attention during the summer months.

❤️☀️July is UV Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to remember that sun safety isn’t just about protecting your skin—it’s also about protecting your heart.

Hot weather and prolonged sun exposure can increase your body’s workload. As your body tries to stay cool, your heart pumps harder, and dehydration can make that job even more challenging.

Whether you’re gardening, walking, attending a sporting event, or enjoying a day outdoors, a few simple habits can help protect your cardiovascular health:

• Drink water regularly—even before you feel thirsty.
• Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher).
• Seek shade during the hottest part of the day.
• Wear lightweight, breathable clothing.
• Take breaks if you begin to feel overheated.

☀️Taking care of your heart means taking care of your whole body—especially during the summer months.

A few simple precautions can help you enjoy the season while protecting your heart health.
