Yesterday I went to a local festival with my kids and saw something that really bothered me! There was a Henna artist there that was using Chemical Henna! This is VERY dangerous to put on peoples skin.
So heres a brief education so you know what to look out for so that you can make an informed decision of what you are putting on your skin!
Cones like the ones I have posted below state they are organic cones but have chemicals and preservatives in it that can cause a chemical reaction or burns to your skin or even contact dermatitis. Shelf stable henna is not natural, organic, or safe at all. If it does not need to be refrigerated or frozen it is not going to be safe for skin. Amazon and hobby lobby Henna, is not safe! Natural Henna is made from Henna powder (which is the dried up ground up leaves from a henna plant- Lawsonia Inermis), sugar, lemon juice, water, and either lavender or eucalyptus oil. Those are the only ingredients necessary to creating a beautiful henna stain and those ingredients need to stay frozen or refrigerated!
There is no such thing as a safe colored or Black Henna! Thats chemicals!
Those closest to black you will get is the Jagua that I also offer which is more of a very deep blueish black stain. Jagua comes from the juice of a berry Genipa Americana! To make the gel that I use its the juice of the berry, eucalyptus oil, and xantam gum (which is a thickening agent used in your toothpaste and even ice creams). Also needed to be kept refrigerated or frozen and not shelf stable!
Please stay educated on what you are putting on your skin, ask the artist if they make it themselves or if they know the ingredients in it! If you see it sitting out in the hot sun it is not safe! Don’t let temporary body art turn into permanent damage on your skin!
