Faith and Fuel

Sometimes the hardest part isn't figuring out what to do.
It's figuring out what deserves your attention.

Life can get loud.

New opportunities.
Open doors.
People.
Responsibilities.
Things that look good and things that might actually be good.

And sometimes, when everything starts happening at once, the answer isn't to do more.
It's to get quiet.

To step back.
To pray.
To listen.
To seek the Lord before seeking the next opportunity.

Because clarity has a way of quieting overwhelm.

When you know what matters, everything else doesn't have to compete for your attention.

Some things are meant to grow.
Some things are meant to be pruned.
And some things simply aren't fruitful anymore and need to be allowed to die away.

That's not always easy.

But making room for what God is doing sometimes means letting go of what He isn't asking you to carry.

So before chasing the next open door, make sure you're still seeking the One who opened it.

The goal isn't to have more going on.
The goal is to know what matters.

Seek the Lord first.
Let everything else find its proper place.

When you've had this much rain, you start noticing things you might normally overlook.

Water finds the low spots.

It finds the cracks.

It finds the places where something isn't sealed quite right.

And vehicles aren't much different.

A little water where it shouldn't be.
A new sound you haven't heard before.
A warning light that comes and goes.
A vibration that wasn't there last week.

It's easy to dismiss small things when everything still seems to be working.

But noticing something early gives you a chance to figure out what's going on before a small problem becomes a big one.

That's true in the shop, and honestly, it's true in life too.

Pay attention.

The things we notice aren't always problems, but they're often worth looking into.

Don't ignore the little signs just because the bigger picture still looks fine.

Sometimes good maintenance isn't about fixing something that's already broken.

It's about noticing what needs attention before it gets there.

Sometimes the first plan doesn't survive contact with reality.

Something breaks.
The part you thought would work doesn't.
The road takes longer than expected.
And suddenly, what looked straightforward isn't anymore.

That's when you have a choice.
You can decide the problem means you're done.
Or you can start figuring out what comes next.

Sometimes that means repairing what you have. Sometimes it means finding a different part. Sometimes it means asking someone for help. Sometimes it means staying up late, getting your hands dirty, and trying again in the morning.

The goal isn't always to keep everything exactly the way you planned it.

Sometimes the goal is simply to keep working the problem.
And that's where good people matter.

You don't have to know every answer yourself. The right person might have the part you need, the knowledge you don't have, or simply the encouragement to keep going when you're ready to call it quits.

A setback can change the plan without changing the purpose.
So when something breaks, don't be so quick to assume the whole thing is over.

Assess it.
Adapt.
Ask for help.
Make the repair.

Then keep moving.

The right people.
The right opportunities.
The next right thing.

One thing you learn working on vehicles is that not everything in front of you needs to be acted on.
Sometimes a part looks like the answer, but it isn't the right part.

Sometimes an opportunity looks good, but it doesn't fit the job.

And sometimes something is dangled right in front of you because it looks like exactly what you've been waiting for.
That doesn't mean it's yours.

Wisdom isn't just recognizing an opportunity. It's knowing which opportunities to take and which ones to leave alone.

The same goes for people.
The right people can help you see what you couldn't see on your own. The wrong people can have you chasing things that were never meant for you in the first place.

Maybe you don't need to chase everything being offered.
Pay attention.
Use discernment.
Listen.
Take your time.

Find the right people.
Recognize the right opportunities.
And when you're not sure what comes next, do the next right thing.

You don't have to force the whole road to make sense.
Sometimes, wisdom is simply knowing what to pick up, what to put down, and what to walk away from.

You don't always get to see the path ahead.

Sometimes you can see the mountain, but not the trail.
You can feel the climb, but you can't see the next step.
You can hear the terrain changing beneath your feet without knowing exactly what's coming.

That's when who you follow matters.

There are times in life when you have to trust your senses, trust your footing, and trust the right person walking ahead of you.

Not because they can see everything either.

But because they know the terrain.
They know when to slow down.
They know when to step over something.
They know when the path changes.

And sometimes the strongest thing you can do is let someone trustworthy go first and follow their lead.

The same is true in life.

We don't always get to see what's around the next bend. We don't always know where the trail leads. We don't always have the information we wish we had.

But God has a way of putting the right people in front of us for the terrain we're walking through.

You don't have to see the whole path to keep moving.

Sometimes you just need to trust the next step, pay attention to what you're sensing, and make sure you're following the right people.

Because not everyone who walks ahead of you knows where they're going.

Choose your guides wisely.

Some journeys take longer than you expected.

There are more miles.
More stops.
More things you didn’t plan for.
More moments when you wonder if you’re even making progress.

But there’s something about a long road that teaches you what a short one can’t.

You learn patience.
You learn endurance.
You learn to appreciate the miles behind you without being afraid of the miles ahead.

And sometimes, the point isn’t how quickly you get there.

It’s who you become along the way.

Long journeys are rarely wasted journeys. Keep going. Check the gauges. Take the necessary stops.

Then get back on the road.

Workshop Wisdom

Don’t force what needs finesse.

There are some jobs where more pressure isn’t the answer.

You can lean harder on the wrench.
You can put more muscle behind it.
You can get frustrated and try to make it happen.

Or you can stop, look at the problem differently, and figure out what it actually needs.

Sometimes the right tool makes all the difference.
Sometimes it takes patience.
Sometimes you have to back up before you can move forward.

And honestly, life works the same way.

Not everything that’s stuck needs more force. Sometimes it needs wisdom. Sometimes it needs a different approach. Sometimes it needs time.

Knowing when to stop forcing something isn’t weakness. It’s wisdom.

Sometimes fixing something means taking it apart more than once.

You put it together.
Test it.

Something still isn’t right.
So you take it back apart.

Look again.
Try something different.
Put it back together.

And sometimes you do it all over again.

It can be frustrating, but there’s a reason for it.

A good repair isn’t about making something work just long enough to get it out the door.
It’s about finding the root of the problem.

A quick fix can make something look better for a while, but eventually the same problem finds its way back.

The same can be true in life.

Sometimes we want to fix what’s visible without taking the time to understand what’s underneath.

Real restoration takes a little more patience.
It means being willing to look deeper, even when that means taking apart something you’ve already worked hard to put together.
Because getting to the root is worth the extra work.

Don’t just fix the symptom. Find the reason.

Every mechanic has them.

The part that should come off easily...
but doesn't.

The bolt that refuses to cooperate.

The piece that makes you stop, stare at it for a minute, and wonder who put it there in the first place. 😂

Sometimes you have to change your approach.
Sometimes you need a different tool.
Sometimes you need more patience than you planned on having.

And sometimes you just have to walk away for a minute before you say something you shouldn't.

But that's part of the work.

Not everything comes apart easily.
Not everything goes according to plan.
And not every problem is solved on the first attempt.

The stubborn parts have a way of teaching you something the easy ones never could.

Patience.
Persistence.
Creativity.
And occasionally, a very good reason to take a coffee break.
