We were called out to make a key for a newly acquired vehicle for one of our regular customers. What we thought was a simple job turned into taking on someone else's "repair."
After successfully making a key for the door locks, we started noticing some major problems — which we'll highlight in a following video. That led us to pull the ignition and we found someone had replaced the entire steering column and left it less than hand-tight. They had also made their own custom receiver for the transponder key, and as you can see in the video, changed half the ignition pins - you can tell by the different colored pins. All of those modifications ultimately caused another failure.
Despite all the challenges, we completely repaired the ignition cylinder, got the steering column back to factory specs, and were able to program a newly made key when all keys were lost.
