Converting a “Kurzheck” (short tail) 917 for operation on public roads was a unique challenge. The order came from spirits manufacturer Count Gregorio Rossi di Montelera of Italy, the main sponsor of Porsche Motorsport for many years. Fitted with exterior mirrors, turn signals, and a rear muffler, the race car was ultimately approved in the US state of Alabama, which also authorized operation in the Count’s chosen home of France. A second “917 Street” was presented to a German customer in 1977.

The new 911 Turbo S features an innovative twin-turbo T-Hybrid powertrain, which first debuted in 2024 in the 911 Carrera GTS. But the technology has been significantly further developed for use in the new 911 Turbo S.

While a single electric exhaust gas turbocharger (eTurbo) is integrated into the T-Hybrid system in the GTS, two of the innovative devices are used in the new 911 Turbo S. The turbine and compressor were specially designed to meet the specific requirements of the top-of-the-range model. The two eTurbos contribute not only to a significant increase in performance but also to greatly enhanced responsiveness of the powertrain.
