🔧 WHAT STARTED AS A ROUTINE DIFFERENTIAL OIL CHANGE REVEALED SEVERAL SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES.
During our initial inspection, we found that one wheel seal was actively leaking. The other wheel ends had heavy, dried buildup from a mixture of gear oil and road dirt, clear evidence that they had leaked previously and were not repaired in time.
We then checked the differential and discovered that the oil level was significantly low. We advised the owner to replace all affected wheel seals because restoring the differential oil to the proper level could cause the weakened seals to begin leaking again.
After removing the hubs and completing a more thorough inspection, we also found:
• Severely worn brake shoes
• Cracked and separating brake linings
• A cracked ABS sensor mounting bracket
• Evidence of previous wheel-seal leakage
• A dangerously low differential oil level
The customer was immediately informed and approved the recommended repairs. We replaced the wheel seals, worn brake components, and damaged ABS sensor bracket, then serviced the differential with the correct oil level.
Catching these problems now helped prevent possible bearing and differential damage, brake failure, an ABS malfunction, costly roadside repairs, and unnecessary downtime.
Preventive maintenance is not an expense, it is an investment in safety, reliability, and lower operating costs.
