After a soggy midweek at Road America, the weekend brought two days of crisp sunshine for the races. ☀️ Here’s how a few of the open-wheel classes shook out.

FA – The Swifts are still the cars to beat

👏 Nathan Byrd in the Arrive & Drive JDR F1000A fought a David vs. Goliath battle all the way to P5.

💔 Brian Tomasi was running clear in P3 until a cut tire ended his podium run.

Early morning and while most cars are still tucked in from overnight, the band is here getting the party started!

🏁 Formula Continental at the Runoffs: 10 drivers, one national title 🏁

FC has a stacked field at Road America this year, and we couldn't be more fired up. 🔥

SCCA's Runoffs preview has it going like this:
🥇 Brandon Dixon – the defending FC champion. He won 2025 from the Tire Rack Pole and led flag to flag.
🥈 Michael Varacins – seven Formula Vee titles and the 2024 FC crown. If anyone can stop Dixon, it's him.
🥉 Brian Tomasi – a two-time FC champion (2004, 2010) and third last year. He'll be waiting if the top two start battling.

Predictions are one thing. The green flag is another. 👀

The DP08 was based almost entirely on the Van Diemen '99-up chassis, so many parts are direct crossovers including the bodywork, wings, and suspension.

🔗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗣𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗔 𝗥𝗢𝗗 𝗘𝗡𝗗 𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗢𝗨𝗧

Rod ends are one of the few parts on a race car where the install is more likely to bite you than the part itself.

📌 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀:

1️⃣ 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁
Minimum thread engagement is roughly 1.5 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳. A 1/2-20 rod end wants about 3/4 inch of thread in the tube. Less than that and you are relying on the first few threads to carry everything.

2️⃣ 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲
If your rod end body (wishbone, track rod, pushrod) has a sight hole, thread must be visible through it. That hole exists so a scrutineer, or you, can confirm engagement without disassembly.

3️⃣ 𝗝𝗮𝗺 𝗻𝘂𝘁𝘀
They get torqued, not snugged. And they get checked at every event, ideally before every session, not every season.
