In April 2023, I found a listing for a "Restored 1974 Ford Bronco Convertible "that was listed on Facebook Marketplace with images, phone number, and website restoredbroncos.us
The listed attached to a real auto shop called Capital Auto Plaza LLC in Springfield, Illinois. I spoke to a real person who called himself " Jay Stanley" and represented himself as the salesperson for this auto plaza. I had 2 phone numbers, the first with a (217) and (618) area code.
I was sent a direct link to the listing via text and email. Many emails, texts, and phone calls transpired. I was sent photos of the VIN and title and photos of vehicle. I was asked to complete a form for the deposit and then was given bank information ( Bank of America) to complete the wire. After the wire was complete and date set to have vehicle delivered, the contact information no longer was in working order. There have been police reports filed and connection with another detective who has told me that I was 1 of 10 people this has happened to, but will not share my information with them.
Therefore, I am trying to create my own platform to try to connect the dots and possibly help all of us recover our losses. If this scam sounds familiar or has happened to you, please email me.
