A little piece of advice for my fellow technician friends!

I always forget that Toyotas have a feature called “Check mode” which makes the vehicle run its OBD monitors in 1 trip instead of 2. In this case it was fantastic because I wanted to verify the Oxygen sensor monitor was going to run without setting any codes after fixing an exhaust leak!

Now the customer can be 100% confident that the truck is fixed and the dreaded check engine light will not come back on for the same issue!

This was a fun project! 1929 Model A with a Chevy 350! Customer came in after buying it, barely running, needing some leaks fixed and brake work done. We ended up replacing almost every gasket on the engine, replacing brake calipers and wheel seals, tuning the engine and it runs and drives great!

Unfortunately I see this type of “repair” quite often.

This 2017 Ford Ta**us had wires tied into the starter solenoid that were crimped poorly, not sealed or insulated. (Most likely it used to have an aftermarket immobilizer or remote start). As soon as it fails the starter no longer works.

Luckily this hack wiring failed while the customer was close to home, but it still left them with a repair and tow bill due to someone not doing their job correctly.

With a little bit of new wire and marine grade heat shrink, this customer is back on the road and their car is put back to how it should be, no unnecessary external relays. (I forgot to get a picture of the finished repair unfortunately)
