NATION’S BEST AMATEUR ROAD RACERS CHASE NATIONAL TITLES AT ROAD AMERICA

Mission Foods SCCA National Championship Runoffs bring four days of qualifying and championship racing to Road America, October 1-4

ELKHART LAKE, Wis., Sept. 22, 2026 – The best amateur road racers from across the country will gather at Road America, October 1-4, for the Mission Foods SCCA National Championship Runoffs, the season-ending event that determines the best of the best in Sports Car Club of America road racing.

For more than 60 years, the Runoffs have brought together top drivers from across the United States for one final test of skill, preparation, and determination. The event is widely recognized as the pinnacle of American amateur road racing, with each driver arriving at Road America focused on one goal: winning a national championship.

Qualifying begins Thursday and continues Friday as competitors battle for starting positions. The intensity rises Saturday and Sunday with 18 winner-take-all championship races across 24 classes. Each race is scheduled for 13 laps or 40 minutes, making every position and every lap count.

Fans will see one of the most diverse collections of race cars assembled anywhere in the country. The field includes powerful GT machines and American sedans, production-based touring cars, Spec Miatas, open-wheel formula cars, purpose-built prototypes and Spec Racer Ford entries.

The Runoffs also provide an open and welcoming experience for spectators. Fans can walk through the paddock, see teams preparing their cars, meet drivers and get an up-close look at the machinery. Grid walks on Saturday and Sunday offer another chance to experience the excitement before the championship races begin.

Friday includes public karting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Families can also play Road America’s free 18-hole disc golf course, visit the Paddock Shop, enjoy food and beverages, and use the weekend tram to explore the scenic 640-acre property.

Students presenting a valid student ID receive $10 off admission at the gate. Tickets, camping and event information are available at RoadAmerica.com. Racing runs rain or shine.

It won’t be long before the weather gets questionable.�Here are 10 practical tips to help get your car ready for fall!
1. Check the brakes and tires. Bad weather and road conditions require good stopping power. If the tires have wear bars showing, say the experts, you need to replace the tires. Most good brake and tire shops will inspect the brakes and tires at no charge. Also check the tire pressure, as tire pressure drops when the outside temperatures drop.
2. Check the lights. Walk around the outside of the car and check the operation of all lights: headlights, taillights, parking lights, brake lights and emergency flashers. If you own an older vehicle with sealed-beam headlamps, you might want to get halogen lamps for improved visibility.
3. Replace wiper blades. The purpose of wiper blades is to completely clear the windshield. Check the blade’s rubber to ensure it is flexible and operate the wipers to see that the blades clear the glass.
4. Make sure heater/defroster work. Driving with an improperly working heater isn’t afe. Check front and rear window defrosters to ensure proper working condition.
5. Have the battery checked. A fully charged battery is necessary to start the car in cold weather. Have the battery and charging system inspected by a trained technician who can replace it if required. I
6. Inspect under the hood. Looking under the hood will allow you to identify any obvious signs of wear or items that need replacing or fixing. Look for leaks, cracks or loose clamps in the cooling system and squeeze the hoses and replace any that are spongy-feeling or brittle. Inspect the underside of drive belts for fraying and replace as required. If you’ve noticed any engine noises, experienced sputtering or other engine problems, have a licensed mechanic thoroughly inspect the engine and make any necessary repairs.
7. Change oil and air filter. If the oil is dirty or you’re at your recommended oil change time, change the oil. Also check the air filter to ensure that it is clean enough to allow for proper operation.
8. Refill cooling system. AAA recommends checking the coolant level in the overflow tank when the engine is cold. If the level is too low, add a 50/50 solution of water and coolant to allow proper antifreeze capability.
9. Check all fluid levels. This includes washer fluid, along with transmission, brake and power steering fluids.

Whenever possible, avoid parking on piles of dry leaves, as they can catch fire and spread to your vehicle. Also, leaves can get stuck in air vents.
Glare
The sun sits lower in the sky during fall, creating a significant glare during sunrise and sunset. This lower angle can make it difficult to see what’s in front of you on your morning and evening commutes.
Fog

To stay safe, use your low beams or fog lights, and avoid using high beams as they can reflect off the fog and create glare—further reducing visibility. Remember to slow down and increase your following distance to give yourself more time to react to sudden stops and obstacles.
Wildlife
Drivers are more likely to hit animals, especially deer, during fall as they become more active and in their search for mates. To avoid accidents drive slowly and stay vigilant in areas known for wildlife crossing. Use high beams when driving at night to spot animals sooner but of course dim them when approaching other vehicles.
