This gorgeous Jeep Wagoneer came in for a full inside and out detail and a 1 step paint correction and touch up on a few scratches. A 6 month sealant was applied for protection and added shine! We stayed with a 1 step because it does go through automatic washes regularly and a multi step correction would be counter productive and less cost effective.

This super nice 2019 Chevy came in because it’s getting a lot of rock chips on the lower door sections. Even though it has 70,000 miles, it came out looking great after getting all the rock chips touched up with matching paint, a good iron decontamination and clay bar. To keep the truck protected we tag teamed with Shawn Thangvijit at A Shade Above to apply PPF to the entire lower sections of the truck. Almost invisible protection, and no more chips! While PPF is ideal for new vehicles before the damage happens, we’ve done plenty of it on vehicles with high miles to prevent things from getting worse.

A full detail in 1990 cost around $100.

That same $100 today has the buying power of about $245. And a professional detail in 2026 runs $300 or more.. which means pricing hasn't outpaced inflation. It's kept pace with it.

But the bigger story here.. isn't the price. It's what the price buys now versus then.

In 1990, a full detail meant a wash, vacuum, wipe-down, hand wax, tire shine, and glass cleaning. That was the standard.

Today, a proper detail starts with a multi-stage decontamination.. iron remover, clay bar treatment, surface prep.. before a machine ever touches the paint. Add in paint correction, ceramic coating application, interior deep cleaning, premium products, and a finishing inspection, and you start to understand why the price moved.

The process evolved. The chemistry evolved. The tools evolved. The standard of care evolved.

A multi-step correction was performed before applying the film to make sure it came out as perfect as possible. Remember, your new car doesn’t come protected from the factory! Full detail on this 2019 Tahoe! Lots of iron deposits, tar and tree sap. But after a very thorough decontamination wash the paint is shining like new. Interior was deep cleaned and sanitized.

Here at Boss Detailing and Coatings, we don’t cut corners. A proper “full detail” takes upwards of 5-8 hours depending on size and condition of the vehicle. Michigan climate and daily life isn’t nice to your car. And we want to make it look like the day you bought it (or better 🤗).
