Willey's Tire Shop & Auto Repair - Ishpeming

Willey's Tire Shop & Auto Repair - Ishpeming Family owned and operated since 1923...Check us out on Willeystire.com Willey's Tire Shop was opened in 1923 in Ishpeming, MI by Marcus Willey Sr.

Since opening we have had 4 locations in downtown Ishpeming. In 1951 it was handed down to Mark's oldest son Jim and was known as Jim's Tire Shop from 1951 to 1972. In 1972 we moved into our present location and the name was changed back to Willey's Tire Shop. When most of the boys in the family became teenagers, the...y all had a job at the store. They would work Saturdays and after school in the

fall, sometimes staying to midnight during the busy season right before snowfall. In 1982 it was then sold to the youngest brother, Marcus Willey Jr. In 1992 we opened our newest store in Marquette, MI. It is managed by Mark's son Scott. Back in 1923 we were selling Federal tires that were made with cotton cords. Later cotton cords were replaced by rayon cords, then nylon and polyester. Finally steel belts were introduced in radial tires, just like the tires we sell today. We also seen wheels change, they went from clincher rims to tube type and finally into the tubeless wheels we use today. Balancing has progressed through years. At first there was no balancing, then it went to bubble balancing, and finally into computerized spin balancing we use today. In 1986 we started doing computerized alignments and have been upgrading our equipment as technology advanced through the years. Some of our employees have been with us since 1982 and others have 19 to 26 years of experience. Through the years many things have changed, we now have access to most major brand name tires, and many private labels. We still try to offer friendly small town service to everyone we meet. Willey's Tire Shop has been family owned and operated since 1923. We are located one block for the Ishpeming High School and next door to Mama Mia's Restaurant. We offer Tire Service as well as Brakes, Alignments, Shocks, Struts, and most front end work.

So Terri and I went on our little adventure to get hay. 60 bales this time and our favorite farmer was waiting for us. We asked if he would like some farm fresh eggs and he said No....I don't know how to cook. He smiled and said my Mom cooked for me for 18 years and then I got married and my wife cooked for me for the next 66. Once again he insisted on loading the trailer with me.

A trip to get hay would not be complete without a pizza from Irene's and then we stopped at the Tioga rest stop for me to re-live some childhood memories...if you don't already know...I have lots of memories...lol.

We got home and I spent a little time splitting firewood for the sauna...oh by the way...Henry our hay guy had his sauna going....lol.

All and all a good mini adventure today.

We are closed tomorrow but Open Monday. I promise if you need your car fixed we will do our best to help...

Until then....Enjoy the Weekend !! - Scott Sr. - Your Local Tire Guy !!

Good Morning Everyone !! Well I woke up to 54 degrees...and....it was raining again. 4 days in a row now...but I am not complaining because living in the Jack Pines I know we need the rain or we have that high fire danger. And lets face it....581 has had a few nasty fires over the years.

Traffic was very light this morning. Not much to talk about today. No road construction...everything was flowing smoothly.

Well it is the weekend and I have a never ending list of chores to do....but today a mini adventure. We are heading to Baraga again to get some hay. Penuche, Jack, and the rest of the family will be happy as Terri really spoils them...lol.

Now I say it is an adventure because the gentleman we have been getting it from is a real character. Terri called and tried to set up a time with him to get the hay and he must really be a man stuck in his routine. " Well Sunday doesn't work because it is a day of rest. " Saturday works but not too early because I like to have breakfast and then I get the sauna going for sauna later. ( You have to imagine this being said in the strongest Finish accent you have ever heard.) So we have a time set at 2 o'clock because at 4 it is time to Sauna.

Then....he likes to load it himself. He is in his 80's if not closer to his 90's and insists on loading my trailer to make sure I am doing it right. At the end he always Thanks me for " helping " him load it...lol.

An added prize though....Irene's Pizza is usually on the menu for the ride home...and of course a stop at either the Tiago Park or Cannon Falls to stretch just for a moment....and usually me running across that little bridge reliving my childhood....

Well that is my plans for the Day....The Question of the Day !! Do you have any plans for the Weekend ?? Let me know !!

We are Open Today in Marquette until Noon.

You know I still get told almost daily " I didn't know you do brakes "

Well we have 4 certified mechanics between our 2 stores and we offer a lot of mechanic repairs. So give us a call...chances are we can help !!

I hope you have an amazing weekend....Scott Sr. - Your Local Tire Guy !!

Today's Picture is of the double rainbow over my house this morning. I could not find a pot of gold anywhere....hmmm....maybe I was the pot of gold....I doubt Terri would agree...but that is the story I am sticking to.....lol.

Good Morning Everyone !! Well I woke up to 54 degrees this morning. The grass was of course wet from rain last night. Once again it was timed just right....I got home...had dinner...got my shoes on to go do some chores ( I had a helper as Little Scott stayed over last night ) and....boom rain. It rained from around 6:30 until I went to bed....so no chores last night instead a movie night with Little Scott.

Traffic was a little lighter than usual as I headed down to Marquette. I did see several police cars out patrolling today so watch your speed if you are traveling. Overall a quiet ride to work this morning.

So today's story is about Crazy Horse. Of course on my travels out to Wyoming I had to stop and see the monument. It was right by Mount Rushmore so another stop and learning experience. We paid the fee to get into the park only to find out we had to pay again to go down closer to the scultpure. I will say I did enjoy the museum part of the stop as it was very interesting. A few facts I learned.

There is not a known picture ever taken of Crazy Horse....So my wandering mind of course starts to think....how do they know what he looks like. Well I guess the sculpture started in the 1940's and they interviewed at the time many of the elders who were still alive and asked to describe him. They did like a police artist sketch and all elders agreed that was him. Also another interesting fact was Crazy Horse was involved in over 20 battles with the U.S. Army and was never injured once during any of these. All and all I enjoyed reading about the culture and if you are into these things and have a chance to stop by I would recommend it.

Well Today's Question of the Day !! Have you ever been to the Crazy Horse Monument....or more importantly have you ever went to a roadside monument that you would recommend to a certain Local Tire Guy to see ??? ( hint hint....I love these little stops so let me know !! )

We are Open 8 until 5 Today !! Give us a call if you need us !!

Remember We Are Much More Than Just a Tire Store !! Brakes, Alignments, Struts, Bearings, and Much More !!

Good Morning Everyone !! Well I woke up to 59 degrees this morning. A nice breeze and a little humid to start the day.

Traffic was heavy again this morning. No road construction to report on my travels to Marquette. Everything was flowing smoothly.

Well today if I was writing a book on my life this chapter would be titled " expectations. "

Did you ever have a expectation of something....you know a picture in your mind on how it should look or be like ?? Well I am guilty of this for a lot of things.

Today I want to talk about Mount Rushmore. Through the years growing up I have seen many pictures of Mount Rushmore. In my mind these scupltures were huge and I guess I thought they were all going to be the size of....I don't know like the tallest buildings in New York. I read it took 14 years to build and was incomplete as the original design was suposed to be each president from the waist up.

So on our travels back from visiting Derek we decided to use Mount Rushmore as one of our rest stops....you know the saying kill 2 birds with 1 stone....well it seemed like a great place to stop and stretch and get to see some history at the same time.

Now I don't want to sound negative because I truly enjoyed this little stop....but I guess in my mind the sculptures were going to be so much bigger....lol. It was kind of a surprise when I looked up and seen they were a lot smaller then I expected.

Since we are talking about expectations....I will say I never expect they would have a gift shop right there in front of the moutain with everything and anything you could think of with the picture of Mount Rushmore on it. They had tee shirts, cups, mugs, puzzles, posters, knives, even Mount Rushmore coffee...so many things with Mount Rushmore on it....lol.

Well this leads me to Today's Question of the Day !! Have you ever traveled somewhere only to find out your expecations were wrong ?? Let me know !!

We are Open Today 8 until 5 !! Give us a call if you need us and I will get you an appointment as soon as possible !!

Remember We Are Much More Than Just a Tire Store !! We have 4 certified mechanics between our 2 stores to help !!

Have a Great Day Everyone !! Scott Sr. - Your Local Tire Guy !!

Good Morning Everyone !! Well I woke up to a little drizzle and 59 degrees early this morning. It may be a warm day with a chance of rain in the future.

I did not run into any road construction on my way to work today. There were patches of fog here and there but traffic was flowing smoothly all the way to Marquette.

Well today I was once again thinking about the long ride I took to visit my son last week. As I drove the many hours to get there my mind was wandering a bit and I couldn't help but think which is better flying or driving when you are going to a destination. Terri really was looking forward to this road trip as she was excited to see the sights. We entered the address in our phone and google showed us the fastest route....well this route contained miles and miles of nothing but....plains. It was flat and you could see for miles. It was weird...I wouldn't even say the grass was green....it was miles and miles of this almost brownish looking grass. I would dare to say if it wasn't for the occasional cows in the field it would seem the landscape never changed. Ok, I will admit at times there was a mountain or a crop of rocks here and there....but no lie...it seemed like miles of nothing.

So this leads me to the Question of the Day !! Would you rather fly or drive to get to your destination. I had that Question stuck in my mind for hours as I drove. Pros...Flying is so much faster...but you can't stop and walk around when ever you feel like it...Driving...yes you can stop...but it takes so much longer to get there.

So what do you think ?? Driving or flying ??

Well We are Open 8 until 5 today !! Between our 2 stores we still have Openings so give us a call if you need us and I will get you an appointment as soon as possible.

Have a Great Day Everyone !! Scott Sr. - Your Local Tire Guy !!

Today's picture is of the traffic jam I ran into. We sat there for quite some time as the Bison really didn't care we were there. I was amazed on how many people tried to walk up close to them....they were huge and if they decided to trample you there was no stopping them.

Good Morning Everyone !! Well I made it back !! We rolled in last night at around 2:30 a.m. After unpacking and cleaning up a bit....well I got around 2 hours of sleep.

It was a nice start to my morning as I woke up to 60 degrees this morning.

Traffic was pretty heavy this morning as I headed to work. There is a lot of construction starting depending on where you are located. The little bridge over Rocky Creek right next to my house is being fixed...so we have a stoplight right in my front yard...lol. I guess be prepared as the days go by for delays when you are traveling.

Well the next couple of days I will have a few stories and pictures to share. Looking back it was a once in a lifetime trip for me. I mentioned the other day that it was 2016 the last time I traveled to see Derek....but truth be told at this time he was working on the Island so it was just a few hours. He works at different resorts and has seen a lot of the world.

No story today as I have a ton of paperwork to catch up on...but Today's Question of the Day !! I drove from Ishpeming Michigan to Jackson Wyoming....not counting bathroom and gas breaks we were in the car for over 23 hours. Today's Question....what was the longest trip you ever took in a car ?? Let me know !!

Well I have a lot of work to do and so many stories to share in my head....so I better get going.

We are Open 8 until 5 Today !! Give us a call if you need us !! We do have a few Openings between our 2 stores this week.

Remember We Are Much More Than Just a Tire Store !!

Today's picture was just a quick one of me. We stopped at a hotel due to the terrible weather...the next morning I thought I would try this chair out as I waited for everyone to get ready to head home.

Have a Great Day !! - Scott Sr.
