Willey's Tire Shop & Auto Repair - Ishpeming Family owned and operated since 1923...Check us out on Willeystire.com Willey's Tire Shop was opened in 1923 in Ishpeming, MI by Marcus Willey Sr.

Since opening we have had 4 locations in downtown Ishpeming. In 1951 it was handed down to Mark's oldest son Jim and was known as Jim's Tire Shop from 1951 to 1972. In 1972 we moved into our present location and the name was changed back to Willey's Tire Shop. When most of the boys in the family became teenagers, the...y all had a job at the store. They would work Saturdays and after school in the fall, sometimes staying to midnight during the busy season right before snowfall. In 1982 it was then sold to the youngest brother, Marcus Willey Jr. In 1992 we opened our newest store in Marquette, MI. It is managed by Mark's son Scott. Back in 1923 we were selling Federal tires that were made with cotton cords. Later cotton cords were replaced by rayon cords, then nylon and polyester. Finally steel belts were introduced in radial tires, just like the tires we sell today. We also seen wheels change, they went from clincher rims to tube type and finally into the tubeless wheels we use today. Balancing has progressed through years. At first there was no balancing, then it went to bubble balancing, and finally into computerized spin balancing we use today. In 1986 we started doing computerized alignments and have been upgrading our equipment as technology advanced through the years. Some of our employees have been with us since 1982 and others have 19 to 26 years of experience. Through the years many things have changed, we now have access to most major brand name tires, and many private labels. We still try to offer friendly small town service to everyone we meet. Willey's Tire Shop has been family owned and operated since 1923. We are located one block for the Ishpeming High School and next door to Mama Mia's Restaurant. We offer Tire Service as well as Brakes, Alignments, Shocks, Struts, and most front end work.

Good Morning Everyone !! Well I woke up to 31 degrees this morning. No frost but on my way to downtown Ishpeming Co Rd 581 had some very thick patches of fog. The type you see in the old time horror shows....but by the time I left the Ishpeming store it was all gone.

Traffic was heavy once again. I have to laugh a bit as I seem to get passed by every car on the road as I head to work. It makes me wonder how I ever have been pulled over for speeding in the past since I seem to be the slowest guy on the road when I travel. Well slow but steady gets me there...lol.

This morning I had an appointment to give blood again....but no...it wasn't that heroic giving blood to save a life...it was another withdrawal for my upcoming quarterly check up. I woke up in a very good mood....slept well and felt good only to realize what was in store. I figured with my extreme hatred of needles perhaps if this is the worst thing to happen today...everything else hopefully will be better...lol.

When I got there I had to fill out the paperwork which funny because I seem to fill out the same form every time I go. I then was asked...do you want your Covid and Flu shot today ??

Um...I start thinking about when I got that Covid shot in the past and I became really sick. I have never got a flu shot...my mind wanders....more needles and the chance the shot makes me sick like last time....ummmm I politely declined.

Sure...maybe I am just a wuss due to the fear of needles...but I have made it this far in life without one. I told the nurse...I prefer to get my flu the old fashion way...I have done it this way for 50 plus years...lol.

So Today's Question of the Day !! I guess since I am getting older and apparently considered almost a senior citizen now...should I be thinking of these flu shots ?? Does anybody reading get them ?? Do they help ?? Let me know !!

Good Morning Everyone !! Well I woke up to another very chilly 23 degrees this morning. I had a pretty good layer of frost on the truck again and the furnace was working hard.

Traffic was a little lighter this morning. I must have hit it between the crowd headed to NMU. Everything was flowing smoothly.

This morning as I was driving to work I started seeing all the Halloween decorations out. This of course sparks a thought in my mind about Halloween. Halloween has always been kind of fun time....you get to dress up...go to haunted corn mazes and haunted houses...and there are usually a few parties going on during this time of years...

But today...I was thinking of candy once again. I started to think of those black and orange wrapped candies that seemed to be so popular when I was a kid. I mean...I guess we should have been grateful for whatever we received...it was free...right ?? But I would sure trade a bag full of those candies for just one Milky Way...lol.

I thought this could be a fun Question...what is your favorite Halloween treat ?? Mine were always Milky Ways...but I imagine everyone has something different they like.

I may have asked this Question or a form of it in the past...but it was on my mind to work today...as you can guess...I really wasn't a fan of those black and orange wrapped candies...and I would try to trade for something I like...lol...

Good Morning Everyone !! Well a little late on my morning post we got really busy right from the start....so here I go...

I woke up to 31 degrees this morning. Chilly but no frost like I had the other day. Still kind of a damp feeling in the air.

Traffic was pretty heavy early this morning with everyone in a hurry once again. I will say everything was flowing smoothly as ever car on the road seemed to pass me....lol.

Well as tradition I like to talk about my weekend...and this weekend was full of projects, chores, and a little fun. Terri was able to get the night off Saturday so pretty much at the last minute we decided to grab the Grandkids and head out for some Halloween fun. We stopped first at Irene's and had a pizza. I really like the Paint shop pizza but the boys had pepperoni. We went to the DesRochers Corn Maze which is one of our yearly traditions. Of course there were all the regular scares...Michael, Clowns, Scarecrows and the little girl from the ring...

After that we went to the Escape room which is my personal favorite. This years theme was zombies and we walked through the maze all while trying to avoid being attack by the walking dead. They actually have you watch a short film that explains where the zombies came from and set you up for the story.

Sunday Sunday Sunday....well back to work. We worked on a project at my sons house. Someone probably long ago made a cold storage - porch off the end of his house. His house is well over 100 years old and needed some T L C. Well they used a door which was a interior door and with our winter weather you can imagine what happened. So we tore this door out and boxed in the space so he has a full wall now. Later we went to my step sons place and tried to get a plan on how to fix his carport.

Later that night...a sauna of course and off to sleep....

Well that was my weekend in a nutshell...

Good Morning Everyone !! Well the weekend is here and I still have that summer mindset as I headed out early this morning only to run back into the house and grab a jacket. It was only 30 degrees this morning with a heavy frost. Chilly to say the least.

Traffic was light this morning. Only a few cars on the road all the way to Marquette. Overall just a really quiet ride.

Last night was date night !! We went to the Crossroads for a fish fry once again. I had the crab stuffed whitefish with fries. I am going to be honest with you I really liked the food but just a little alone time with Terri was the icing on the cake. I started to think it seems like yesterday when she " coaxed " me in to asking her out but in reality it was already 16 years ago. We have had our ups, downs, good times and fights...but I truly look forward to spending time with her. I started to think next year is going to be 15 years married...and I would like to do something special. Then my mind wanders and I think...hey here is a good Question of the Day !!

Have you ever went to some romantic destination that didn't break the bank. I have to start saving up now because you know Terri's furry friends cost a bit to feed....haha...

So as you know...I read all the comments so help a guy out...any really nice places I could bring her for a nice weekend next year to celebrate 15 years ?? Let me know !!

Good Morning Everyone !! Well I woke up to a very rainy 40 degrees this morning. The rain felt actually quite cold as I headed out to work.

Traffic was heavy at times on my way to Marquette. Lots of puddles out there so you will need your wipers today....possibly an umbrella if you are headed outdoors.

So today as I was traveling to work I started to think about Little Scott and his wrestling career. He is 14 and hasn't been wrestling even a year yet....with less than a half dozen tournaments under his belt.

I started to think about Scott Jr...his father....

When Scott Jr. was 14 and in 8th grade ( the same age Scott the 3rd is right now ) he had hundreds of matches under his belt. We sent him to Europe to wrestle. He was part of a group called People to People Sports Ambassadors. At first I thought it was some kind of hoax but it ended up being a legit thing and he went to Europe to wrestle.

So todays little story is about this trip and how it was explained to me from a teenagers point of view.

I was pretty nervous to be honest. I was-am a very overprotective father. I went to the organization meetings....I had every phone number for every person involved. I had a day by day schedule and I followed it as he traveled. I was on top of everything doing all I could to make sure he would be safe and I knew where he was. I may have even....sad to say...stressed my opinion on...well my kid better being safe to the chaperones...maybe a little too harsh...

First stop was England. They were going to be there for a while...train...and do some sight seeing. He was going to see the Tower of London, the Palace, the Crown Jewels, Big Ben, and the Tower Bridge which most people in the U.S. think is called London Bridge, and a few more sites around London.

So I get my first phone call from him and I want to hear all about the sights and of course the training....and he tells me this..." did you know they serve a huge chunk of meat with every meal and they offer tea all the time..."

I was like...what ?? You are traveling and this is what you are talking about...meat ?? Nothing said about the Tower of London, Big Ben, the Tower Bridge....nope...meat...and at the very end he says..." oh Ya we went on the London Eye..." Well talk to you later...click....

Next stop was Belgium...yep...even worse...that phone call we talked about cheese...and how he bought this little wheel of cheese and it was the best ever...nothing else....as far as I know the whole day was spent eating cheese...lol. Got to go....click....

OH, but it gets better. Amsterdam was next. The first thing he told me was they went to a beach and did you know girls do not have to wear tops at the beach...I was like....ahhhhhh...ummmm... The protective Father was just freaking out at this time...you brought my teenage son...to a beach...with topless girls...which I guess isn't a big thing over there....but lets just say I was a little upset...

Then he tells me they were all in a group jogging and their guide took them on a wrong turn. They had to jog back and were in a hurry to catch I believe he said a train for the next destination and the guide took them through a short cut...right through the red light district. He tells me about all these half naked girls waving as the jogged by....ahhhh...ummmmm....I felt like going and dragging him home. He ended that conversation by telling me it saved a bunch of time and they made it back ok. Once again got to go...click...

The last day...the big tournament...

I get a phone call again...Hey Dad...they took my camera away. I was like what ?? I had bought him a couple throw away cameras because this was before the cell phones with cameras and no digital stuff at this time. I asked why....well...I was getting pictures of me with the girls from the beach. I quietly asked...the topless ones...Yep....I see why they took it away...The only thing he told me about the tournament was he took 2nd...beat all his foreign opponents and lost to a team mate from Iowa...yep...he was more concerned about the camera then the tournament which was the main reason for the trip....and this was the final call...click..

He came home with all the cameras except the one with the girls on it...makes me wonder if the chaperone kept it for himself...

Today's Question of the Day !! Have you ever traveled to a foreign country ?? What was the one thing that stuck out in your mind from your trip ?? Hopefully you don't tell me it was cheese or meat...hahaha.

Good Morning Everyone !! Well it was kind of a windy damp morning once again with just a trace of drizzle as I headed to Marquette. It was only 42 degrees when I woke up early this morning.

Traffic was heavy and still one lane by the State Police post. All the roads that have been blocked off since summer are still blocked off in downtown Ishpeming. I guess it was just a normal quiet ride to Marquette complete with the now routine detours.

So today as I was driving I started to think about games. Games have really changed through the years once technology started to bloom. I remember when I was a kid playing Yard Darts with those large plastic darts and heavy metal ends on them. We used to throw them up as high as we could never once thinking they could injure us when they came down. Then...board games....I played so many board games growing up. Life, Connect 4, Trouble, Operation, Mouse Trap and Monopoly were just a few. I can remember playing Monopoly for hours and I can't recall ever finishing a game...we used to just quit after a while.

I still have a few board games at home and I can't remember the last time they were touched. They just collect dust now.

So this was the thought in my head...many years and many many hours were spent on a cold or rainy day playing these games.

My Question of the Day !! What was your favorite board game and do you still play games to this day. If I am being honest...I really have not played any board games for a while unless you count playing Cribbage or Yahtzee at camp with Terri. We will both claim we are not competitive but truth be told our games can become a little intense...lol.

Good Morning Everyone !! Well I woke up to a little drizzle again and 45 degrees. There was a damp and chilly feeling in the air.

Traffic was heavy once again but no delays to report. Everything was flowing smoothly all the way to Marquette.

Last night we had wrestling practice again. Little Scott was out there pounding away trying to improve. It is an awesome sight to see as he is by far the least experienced guy there but tries so hard.

I think at times he may be a little hard on himself...he has big shoes to fill being in the shadow of his Dad and Uncles...He watched his Grandpa get pounded at the Peshtigo tournament so that helped a little...He is slowly getting better and I can see the confidence growing at each practice. I sat there and thought to myself...it is pretty cool he is so dedicated trying to learn this new skill...this of course makes my mind wander once again.

As a kid I had a very over active imagination. I dreamed of doing many things...some I accomplished...others...well still a dream.

I started to think as I sat there watching the sweat dripping from my Grandson's forehead...what hobbies, traits, skills would I still like to accomplish....

I guess a major dream of mine would be to go to some foreign lands with Terri....hike and see the world...then I thought well....that really isn't a learned skill...but an awesome dream non the less...

My mind was wandering as I was trying to concentrate on Little Scotts performance looking for areas of improvement and I came up with this...

If there was one skill I wish I would have learned...it would be playing guitar.

I love my music....I find myself doing chores around the house and in my mind I hear those guitar riffs and sometimes wish I could play. I even find myself playing air guitar until Terri walks over and catches me...she smirks...but to her credit...." USUALLY " doesn't tease too much...haha !!

It then came to me...this might be a cool Question of the Day !!

Is there a trait, hobby or skill you wish you would have learned ?? Mine, guitar....I can see it now...Scott Sr. out there jamming away with my heavy metal guitar riffs....though I probably look more like Keith Richards or well....Santa Claus jamming away....I might not be the best candidate for a heavy metal band....lol....but I can dream...

Well I told you my dream....your turn to shine !!

Good Morning Everyone !! Well I woke up to a little drizzle and 49 degrees this morning. We had some pretty intense lightning last night with some strong thunder...hopefully the rain helps slow down the fires burning.

Traffic was heavy again this morning. It was a little backed up by the State Police post but not too bad. Overall a quiet drive in the rain to Marquette.

So Today if I was writing a book this chapter would be called " Battle of the Sexes...." Well maybe that term is a little strong but I think this will be a fun story to play along with.

If you have read my stories before you know that Terri and I work different shifts. She is a midnight shift nurse....I work days...So time together is cherished. But like any other couple we do have days when we might....bicker so to say.....lol.

I will admit I am stubborn at times....like our mule " Toivo " but here is my playful take on a few things that I observe and notice Terri and I are so different about....lol. I should say this " Disclaimer Terri and I fine...but it is just a fun take on our differences. "

The first thought that pops in my head....the heater-air conditioner in the truck....

I like to put the heat on low...little to no fan as when it is on high the hot air blows into my eyes and dries them out. I know...I know...sounds like I am whining but it is a true statement...I sit high enough that the air hits me right in the face. I like the fan on low or even shut off and usually blowing on my feet. My feet get cold for some reason...probably bad circulation but Terri...for what ever reason her feet get hot and she instantly turns the heat on defrost and ups the fan...then she gets warm and keeps the fan going but turns the heat down...and the air conditioner unless it is super hot usually never gets turned on...she like to just keep the fan part going....nothing terrible here...just a funny observation on how we are different...she is usually cold in the truck...I am usually warm...lol.

Then the bedroom...

Terri seems to be the opposite here...

When we are in the truck she is usually cold...but in the bedroom she likes it as cold as a meat locker...ok...maybe not that bad but it can be chilly in the room and she will turn a fan on or crack a window...I shiver...she is warm...lol. Oh speaking of that...if you ever ask her...she will probably tell you this story. She likes the bed made before she goes to sleep...I just crawl under the pile of blankets as they sit...ok let me say this...maybe I am a little lazy when it comes to bedtime...10 o'clock and I am shutting down...but in my defense when we are actually together ( midnight shift nurse so we are not together much at night ) she always gets warm and kicks all the blankets off and they get piled on me anyways...lol....yep that is my story and I am sticking to it !!

There are a lot of little difference but I guess we usually meet somewhere in the middle and I guess that is why we click...One last example...she likes to swim...in cold water...me...no Thank You...but this weekend I went into the lake...I was frozen...she splashed around like it was no big deal....lol.

So the Silly Question of the Day !! Any funny little differences you and your spouse have that you are willing to share ?? It may be fun !! So let me know !!
