🚨 ITWA MEMBERS — WE NEED YOUR INPUT 🚨

ITWA is gathering information regarding the use of Flock cameras and other automated license plate readers (ALPRs) within the towing industry.

Our lobbyist, Hamilton Smith, has made us aware that there are discussions among Indiana lawmakers about possible legislation during the 2027 legislative session that could regulate or limit the use of these systems.

At this point, there is no indication that a specific proposal has been finalized or that use would necessarily be limited to law enforcement.

Indiana lawmakers have publicly discussed potential restrictions and safeguards involving ALPR technology, including questions about who may access the information, how it may be used, and how long data may be retained. �

Before ITWA weighs in on any proposal, we need to understand whether and how this technology is being used by our members.

👉 Do you currently use Flock cameras or another license plate reader system in your towing business?

👉 If so, what do you use it for?
Examples might include locating vehicles, repossession-related work, lot/security operations, vehicle identification, or another business purpose.

👉 Would restrictions on private or commercial use of license plate readers affect your towing operation? If so, how?

This is exactly why member input matters. The more we understand about how these systems are actually being used by Indiana towing companies, the better information ITWA can provide as discussions develop at the Statehouse.
