When we paid for our shop lights to be replaced some 12 years ago and the contractor told us that the GE linear fluorescent tubes were expensive, but they should last ~10 years before needing to be replaced. In 12 years we only replaced 4 of 144 bulbs, but now they're failing constantly. Coincidently LED technology has been making strides in shop lights in recent years, so we will replace all of these with cleaner and more efficient units and disconnect the ballasts. It should help our electric bill every month and make our shop brighter, but I'm left wondering if we will get the same mileage...
