Thanks for choosing me for your mobile mechanic needs! It has been truly humbling and eye-opening to see how much kindness, patience, and trust is given, right here in this community and all the outlying communities! Thank you for your support! I've been learning the ropes and I'm getting better thanks to all of my customers. So once again, thank you!

I wanted to inform everyone that I've decided to change the name of Gibbs Auto Repair LLC. This is to differentiate my business from Griggs Mobile Service, another outstanding mobile mechanic! We've apparently traded customers several times, so hopefully this will set us apart. The new name will be Jason's Auto Repair LLC. This change will be effective on September 21st so I can get the word out to my existing customers. Same owner, same business, same Sunfire! 🤣 Stay tuned for more changes as this business grows.

Sometimes diagnosis leads you on a goose chase. But with good wiring diagrams, service bulletins, and good testing equipment, things start to become clear. Enter a 2008 Nissan Altima 3.5 with a limp mode condition. ABS, Trac, SLIP, and battery lights are on. Codes pulled related to the vehicle speed sensor, CAN communication, battery voltage, and a KAM memory code.

When inspected, several problems were found. See some of the pictures. A battery post and cable end in bad shape. The battery cable clamp wouldn't hold down anymore and was replaced. This was half of the reason a KAM code was set. A vehicle speed sensor not properly seated due to the mounting bolt being stripped out, and reading an erratic signal when properly mounted. Sensor was replaced, and a new fastener was installed. An alternator 3-pin harness chewed up pretty badly, also replaced. And finally, once all these components were fixed, the root cause of the limp mode was a faulty alternator. This was the other half of the reason the CAM code was set, and was the reason for the battery light and all the brake lights. How? That's where the wiring diagrams helped. I was able to determine that the alternator and ABS module had some wiring in common. The ABS module relied on alternator signal to ensure there was enough power to actuate the ABS motor in the event of a skid. When it didn't see the voltage signal, it turned on the brake warning light. And also because the IPCM didn't see signal from the alternator, the battery light was turned on as well.
