GM does it again, leading the automotive field in strict, non-negotiable ADAS Guidelines.

"...The latest revisions replace previous recommendations with explicit prohibitions, repeatedly stating that the use of certain non-GM parts is “strictly prohibited” in a variety of repair scenarios involving vehicle safety systems."

Read the new position statement below:

GM has reinforced its stance on the use of OEM parts in collision repairs, updating several position statements with stronger language that leaves little room for interpretation

Pro ADAS Calibration's number one goal has always been safety. We scrutinize every calibration our technicians make, have a specific Quality Assurance wing of our operation, and have always underlined the importance of documentation and doing everything by OEM Standards.

In this article, it becomes apparent that with increasing ADAS sensors, documentation and careful scrutiny will become much more important as vehicles get smarter.

"...The future of collision repair will be shaped by expanding sensor arrays, conditional system behaviors, and higher safety standards, requiring shops to develop robust processes for verification, documentation, and communication to ensure successful repairs and mitigate liability..."

Did you miss it? GM has strengthened its language in regards to ADAS repair.

“The use of salvaged, recycled, reconditioned, remanufactured, aftermarket, or any secondary-market ADAS radars, cameras, sensors, or related components is not approved by GM.”

Less than two months after GM released an updated ADAS position statement, the company has revised it to add language emphasizing the technology as a safety feature that must be restored to pre-los…

Today on , we share an article about legislation, liability, and identification regarding ADAS systems.

"...Srisu Subrahmanyam, CEO of Repairify, puts the problem in two parts. The first is identification: knowing which sensors need to be recalibrated after a collision based on where the damage occurred and what systems are on the vehicle.

The second is verification: confirming the calibration was actually performed correctly. "Just because you see a blank screen doesn't mean your ADAS systems are perfectly fine," he said. A clear scan showing no DTC codes is not confirmation that sensors are operating within spec. Most vehicles have no instrumentation that tells a driver, or a technician, whether they are...."

Shops have made strides on identifying what needs to be calibrated. Verifying the work was actually done right is a different problem entirely.
