Three weeks ago, we ran our 1977 All American Racers Eagle DGF and our 1973 Elden PH10B at the VSCDA Art On Wheels event at Road America. The Eagle ran in the Club Ford category, as it had twice already in 2026, while the Elden made its 2026 debut.
On wet and weary Friday, both cars competed in the East vs. West Challenge special feature event, but weather nature had a bit to say about that. Minutes before the race started, the skies opened up and left a few competitors under their tents for another day.
Meanwhile, Reid Hazelton piloted the #461 Eagle DGF to an amazing ding-dong battle with Michigan’s Mark Kingham for the win, with Kingham narrowly edging the Eagle in the pouring rain. Meanwhile, aboard the SS Elden, Jacques Dresang told the crew on the grid that this wasn’t exactly his cup of tea, and then proceeded to aquaplane on the pace lap, which was all the evidence he needed to call it a race after the pace lap.
Saturday’s race was another wet affair, but one in which the conditions were more suited for car racing rather than submarines. Hazelton again took to the point and won the Club Ford category with the Eagle, while Dresang was just a few spots behind with the Elden in capturing the Vintage Formula Ford honors.
Sunday’s final feature mirrored Saturday, with Hazelton checking out early for the Club Ford win, while Dresang finished just two positions back in capturing the VFF win.
So our 2026 racing season has ended. The Eagle captured 8 wins in 10 events, while the Elden was two-for-three, but more importantly, it was an honor for us to showcase what two amazing historical Formula Fords were capable of.
None of this would have been possible without Paul Jay, Werth Race Engineering, Jake Jacobs, RB MotorSports Engineering, Scott Young Enterprises, and American Cylinder Gas. Thanks to all, and we’ll see you on-track again in 2027!
