And this is why we are Toyota Fans !

Graeme Hebley has been driving the same 1993 Toyota Corolla station wagon since 2000 — and has put over 2 million kilometers, roughly 1.2 million miles, on it without ever replacing the engine or transmission.

He drives almost 5,000 kilometers per week for his job as a newspaper delivery contractor, making the roughly four-hour round trip between Wellington and New Plymouth six days a week.

His mechanic John Sherman of Guthrie’s Auto Care, who has serviced the car every two weeks for over 20 years, confirmed the car still runs on its completely original engine and transmission.

“If I hadn’t worked on it, I wouldn’t believe it. I wouldn’t believe it could do two million without something going wrong,” Sherman said.

Hebley credits the car’s longevity to a combination of Toyota’s engineering and his commitment to regular maintenance.

“That era of Toyota has such built-in reliability. But if it wasn’t so frequently serviced, it just wouldn’t work,” he said. ·

At 72 years old, Hebley has no plans to retire the car or himself: “As long as it keeps going, so will I"

In a culture completely obsessed with upgrading and replacing everything the moment something newer exists, this man and his Corolla are a reminder that consistency and care will always outlast novelty.

RIGHT TO REPAIR = YOUR RIGHT TO CHOOSE! 🔧

Did you know you have the right to choose where your vehicle is repaired? You don't have to go back to the dealership just because your vehicle is under warranty.

The Right to Repair movement helps ensure independent repair shops have access to the same service information, diagnostic tools, and repair procedures as dealerships. That means you can receive quality repairs from a shop you know and trust.

At McDaniel Auto Care, we believe:
✅ You should have the freedom to choose your repair shop.
✅ You deserve fair prices and honest service.
✅ Independent repair shops keep competition alive and help save customers money.

We support your Right to Repair because it's about giving vehicle owners more choices—not fewer.

💬 Do you think vehicle owners should always have the freedom to choose who repairs their car? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

McDaniel Auto Care's sponsorship of the South Briar’s Barracuda’s swim team is a shining example of local businesses driving positive change, and I'm eager to share their story.

To our friends at McDaniel Auto Care,

Thank you for sponsoring the South Briar Barracudas swim team and for investing in the children and families of our community.

Your generosity reaches far beyond the pool. It helps create a place where kids build confidence, form friendships, learn perseverance, and experience the joy of belonging. Through your support, our swimmers are surrounded by a community that cheers them on, celebrates their growth, and teaches them the value of teamwork and connection.

Our swim team is more than a summer activity—it is a gathering place where friendships are formed, families come together, and lifelong memories are made. By sponsoring our team, you are helping strengthen the sense of community that makes our neighborhood so special. Our team also held a Swim-A-Long fundraiser this year where they swam laps to raise money for Heaven’s 27, which honors the legacy of the 27 campers and counselors who lost their lives in the Camp Mystic Floods in 2025. The team had a goal of $2,700 and raised over $6,500!

Thank you for believing in our young athletes and for helping create opportunities that bring our community together. We are deeply grateful for your partnership and support and look forward to continuing it next summer!

With heartfelt appreciation,

The South Briar Barracudas Swim Team
