The Mind Creates the Only Permanence

The only permanent thing in the universe is what you establish in your own mind. Most of life’s limitations are self-imposed. We believe something is impossible not because it truly is—but because we have convinced ourselves that it must be. Consider an experiment in which scientists separated two fish with a glass divider—one a predator, the other its prey. Time and again, the predator struck the barrier until it finally gave up. Later, when the divider was removed, the fish continued to swim as if the boundary still existed.

We, too, are creatures of habit. Old beliefs and past failures often condition us to stop trying. But growth demands that we test our limits. As you develop new skills, broaden your understanding, and sharpen your discipline, you’ll often discover that what once held you back no longer has power over you.

Spend time in what Napoleon Hill called “productive daydreaming.” Imagine what you would attempt if nothing were impossible. Then, convert those dreams into definite, measurable goals—and build a plan to reach them. When directed with belief and persistence, your mind can transform today’s imagination into tomorrow’s reality.
