This beautiful bike is a 1982 Suzuki GS1000sz Katana. This GS1000sz was created when Suzuki wanted to update their image because face it, no one wants a boring looking bike. In order to do this they hired a new Bavarian design company named, Target Design. This cutting edge team consisted of three men; Jan Fellstrom, Hans-Georg Kasten and Hans Muth. Muth, Target's leading engineer was the ex-chief of styling at BMW where he had created the popular R90S and R100RS. Once the authorities at Suzuki saw this new, track-style racing design they knew it would stand out among the traditional cafe-racers and revolutionize what people expected when seeing a racing bike. With Target's philosophy of 'Keeping components compact and close fitting' along with Suzuki's dedication to producing a unique bike with a very racey appearance they were able to reduced required components which made for a lighter and more affordable bike. Although the Katana name was dropped late in 1983, originals are valuable and highly sought after by collectors. In 1998, the 1982 GS1000sz was featured at New York's Guggenheim Museum, in their "Art of the Motorcycle" exhibit that still makes appearances at museums across the country.
