There is a very specific flavor of dread that hits when you realize you've been having a deeply detailed conversation with someone whose identity you have, at no point, actually confirmed. ☑️

The rapport was so natural, and you were ten minutes deep into a conversation that, in hindsight, probably should have started with a verification question or two. Somewhere out there, there is a chance that a complete stranger now knows things they absolutely should not know, and there is no recall button on a phone call. The professional move would have been caution. The human move was charisma. Both can be true, and yet only one of them keeps you out of an HR meeting later this week. 😰☎️
