Good afternoon Shellbay Campers,
We want to remind you of the recycling requirements from the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority (CMCMUA). Recently there have been many plastic bags containing recycling, as well as styrofoam, and sometimes trash included in our recycling bin. The CMCMUA has asked us to make sure these items are not in the recycling or fines will be imposed.
Just because something has the recycling symbol on it does not mean that it is recyclable in this county. The sign to the left of the recycling bin describes many of the items that are acceptable in our recycling bin.
If you are not sure if something is recyclable, you can scan the QR code on the sign, or the stickers on the recycling bin. This brings you to the CMCMUA App. We are in Middle Township, and from the “what goes where” tab you can type in what you have; to see if it is recyclable or not. If it is not listed as recyclable in that app it DOES NOT belong in the recycling bin.
For example: metal food/beverage cans are recyclable, but other metal items are not to be put into the recycling bin. Metal grills, metal beach chairs, or other metal scrap can be picked up by the office. Just stop in the office, let us know, and it will be picked up directly from your site.
Also, heavy plastics, like tables and chairs, are not to be dumped into the trash OR recycling bins as they are not considered household trash/municipal waste. These items are considered bulky and can be taken directly to the CMCMUA transfer station located nearby at 650 Shunpike Rd., Cape May Court House, NJ 08210 (you pass it on the way to Home Depot when turning right at the four way stop). The fee for this and other bulky/construction debris (furniture, beds, tarps, carpet, wood, etc) is by weight with the minimum charge being $9.
