Jeep's first station wagon inspired the phrase "tailgate party?" The 1946 Jeep Station Wagon featured a fold-down tailgate, which people utilized for picnics and get-togethers outdoors. The wagon was also the first wagon to have steel siding. It improved the wooden siding found in other wagons at the time. It was also considered a delivery vehicle. Later, the wagon became the Grand Cherokee, the first to build a unibody frame for a four-wheel drive vehicle, now a standard for SUVs.
