Yesterday morning, Jimmy's Towing & Recovery, was dispatched to recover a partially submerged vehicle in Gibson, Louisiana in the western part of Terrebonne Parish.
After leaving the roadway, a vehicle traveled through the woods and came to rest in the bayou, a considerable distance from the highway. With our recovery truck having to remain on the roadway, the distance, thick vegetation, standing water, and numerous trees between the vehicle and the highway made for a technical recovery that required careful planning and precise ex*****on.
Our operator waded into the bayou to access and rig the vehicle for extraction. From there, the recovery involved extensive rigging and multiple changes in pulling angles as the vehicle was gradually winched back through the woods. Sn**ch blocks had to be repositioned throughout the operation to continually adjust the pulling direction, guiding the vehicle around trees, and prevent it from becoming hung up along the way. Every movement had to be carefully controlled as the vehicle worked its way through the tight, wooded terrain toward the highway.
Once the vehicle was safely brought back to the roadway, it was loaded onto a flatbed for transport. Our operator then finished the job by clearing debris from the recovery site and shoveling accumulated mud off of the roadway from the recovery process.
A recovery like this takes more than pulling power. It takes some experience, proper rigging, constant adjustments, and an operator who knows how to work through a difficult situation with the want to see the operation through.
