When given this option, Austin responded with an excited “Yes”! This didn’t come as much of a surprise to those who knew Austin and the Brehio family. Austin comes by racing naturally, with his father, Glen, driving race cars since he was 17 years old. By the time Austin was born, Glen was in the Busch North Division. Austin has watched Glen race many types of race cars and takes his Dad's advice
when at the track. Austin only raced part of the season in 2003, and took home the Rookie of the Year honors in his class. Then in his first full season at Londonderry Raceway, he won 12 of 22 races, taking home the 2004 QMA Junior Championship! At that point, he and his father decided to change the pace and try a new division, at a new track. So, 2005, found Austin at Sugarhill Speedway in the Tiger Sprint Division. Although this was his first season at a new track, he was too fast to stay in the Tiger Sprint C division, which usually has the newer racers. However, he fared quite well in the B division, winning 7 of 15 races and again taking home the division championship title! He also received another well-deserved honor at the 2005 Awards Banquet – the Junior Racer’s Challenge Achievement Award given by Flyin’ Ryan’s School of Performance Karting. This award was given to the racer who not only had high points at the race track, but also excelled in the academic arena. Austin has definitely proven himself in the classroom with straight 'A' grades! The 2006 season found Austin moving up into the Tiger Sprint A division, which consisted of a group of 7 very competitive drivers. He did quite well with 5 feature wins and finished 4th in the overall points chase. Towards the end of the season, the Brehio Race Team purchased a Junior Sportsman Champ kart that showed great promise for the next season, winning 2 pole positions in time trials and two feature races out of six starts! In 2007, Austin had the best year of his early career, winning 22 features while competing in the Tiger Sprint "A" and the Jr Sportsman Champ divisions at Sugarhill Speedway. Austin finished the year with two divisional championships and won the coveted Overall Track Championship at Sugarhill Speedway. In 2008, Austin competed on the WKA National Tour along with the Northeast Pavement Series with the Jr Sportsman Champ kart and was able to take home the Northeast Pavement Series Championship and the WKA Northeast Pavement Series Championship. In 2009 Austin drove his first full size racecar at Canaan Fair Speedway, at age 11, finishing the year 9th in points and winning a qualifying heat. He also competed at Sugarhill speedway winning 9 of ten races. 2010 has been a very good year with Austin getting his first win in the full sized race car, just three days after turning 13! He finished the year with 2 wins, 5 top five finishes, six qualifying heat wins and 4th in over all points
