Austin Brehio Racing LLC

Austin Brehio Racing LLC Austin Brehio Austin began racing just after he turned 6 years old. His Dad offered him an opportunity to race a kart at Londonderry Raceway.

When given this option, Austin responded with an excited “Yes”! This didn’t come as much of a surprise to those who knew Austin and the Brehio family. Austin comes by racing naturally, with his father, Glen, driving race cars since he was 17 years old. By the time Austin was born, Glen was in the Busch North Division. Austin has watched Glen race many types of race cars and takes his Dad's advice

when at the track. Austin only raced part of the season in 2003, and took home the Rookie of the Year honors in his class. Then in his first full season at Londonderry Raceway, he won 12 of 22 races, taking home the 2004 QMA Junior Championship! At that point, he and his father decided to change the pace and try a new division, at a new track. So, 2005, found Austin at Sugarhill Speedway in the Tiger Sprint Division. Although this was his first season at a new track, he was too fast to stay in the Tiger Sprint C division, which usually has the newer racers. However, he fared quite well in the B division, winning 7 of 15 races and again taking home the division championship title! He also received another well-deserved honor at the 2005 Awards Banquet – the Junior Racer’s Challenge Achievement Award given by Flyin’ Ryan’s School of Performance Karting. This award was given to the racer who not only had high points at the race track, but also excelled in the academic arena. Austin has definitely proven himself in the classroom with straight 'A' grades! The 2006 season found Austin moving up into the Tiger Sprint A division, which consisted of a group of 7 very competitive drivers. He did quite well with 5 feature wins and finished 4th in the overall points chase. Towards the end of the season, the Brehio Race Team purchased a Junior Sportsman Champ kart that showed great promise for the next season, winning 2 pole positions in time trials and two feature races out of six starts! In 2007, Austin had the best year of his early career, winning 22 features while competing in the Tiger Sprint "A" and the Jr Sportsman Champ divisions at Sugarhill Speedway. Austin finished the year with two divisional championships and won the coveted Overall Track Championship at Sugarhill Speedway. In 2008, Austin competed on the WKA National Tour along with the Northeast Pavement Series with the Jr Sportsman Champ kart and was able to take home the Northeast Pavement Series Championship and the WKA Northeast Pavement Series Championship. In 2009 Austin drove his first full size racecar at Canaan Fair Speedway, at age 11, finishing the year 9th in points and winning a qualifying heat. He also competed at Sugarhill speedway winning 9 of ten races. 2010 has been a very good year with Austin getting his first win in the full sized race car, just three days after turning 13! He finished the year with 2 wins, 5 top five finishes, six qualifying heat wins and 4th in over all points

Saturday, August 4, 2012 – Seekonk Speedway
Now that we are done with Modified racing, the Austin Brehio race team decided to head to Seekonk, MA today for the Pro All Star Series (PASS) race. Austin had been to this track once last year with the PASS series.
He had three practice sessions that went quite well. The first practice, the car was very loose on entry into the corner, but the team fixed this for the second warm-up. He then scuffed his new tires in the third practice and turned his fastest times of the day and better than his best time last year.
In the heat race, he unfortunately started on the outside in 4th place. The car in front of him got a very poor start and Austin ended up falling straight to the back of the pack in 9th place. He was running right on the bumper of the car in 8th place. Then on lap 13 out of 15, one of the cars in mid-pack had a tire go down. Austin was right on the ball and went straight to the outside and up into 6th spot. He was able to stay in this position as he came across the finish line for the heat.
The feature found him starting in 17th (at least on the inside)! Right on the start coming down the front stretch for the green flag, Austin got hit from behind by the #27 (a local driver). It lifted the car right off the ground and got him sideways going across the start finish line, but Austin did a great job saving it and continuing on without losing position. He then showed what a phenomenal driver he is by running on the outside of one of the local drivers ( #92) for 5 laps and overtaking that position. Then a lap or two later he showed his great reflexes by avoiding an accident right in front of him on the backstretch, by going high immediately and driving right by the spinning cars. He then went into turns 3 and 4 and had to avoid another crash – going to the outside and coming out ahead – up to 14th position! The night was going great! On the restart, he actually started 13th because Johnny Clark (who was in that spot), pitted. He was driving hard and moving forward until lap 22, when DJ Shaw in the #60 came dive-bombing in under Austin going into turn 3 and then body-slamming his car up against the whole side of Austin’s car in the middle of 3 and 4. This broke something in the steering, causing the steering wheel to bounce all around, so Austin had to bring the car into the pits. The crew tried to find the problem and even thought initially that maybe it was just a bent wheel, but unfortunately it was a more significant problem than that.
The night started out great, but ended up being very disappointing due to aggressive driving so early in the race! Hopefully, we will have better luck at White Mountain Motorsports Park next week. The car is definitely going well and Austin is doing a wonderful job driving it!
