In the past I believe I have mentioned our housekeeper's son has autism. He's a great kid and loves to look around at the sailboats in the yard. Zander just turned 14 years old and VERY Excited about Tempest Sailing, "almost" as excited as I am!!!

Well, according to his mother Rosie, everywhere he goes he tells people about Tempest Sailing and all the sailboats. He offers them for sale - he says... "they cost somewhere between a dollar and $500, but you have to talk to David". We are talking grocery stores, concerts, sporting events, even church! LOL

I do not see a better candidate for the position of 'Junior Sales Associate' for Tempest Sailing than Zander.

So, today I made him his own Tempest Sailing foul weather rain jacket properly monogramed with his new title!

Congratulations Zander and welcome to the Tempest Sailing team!

Our last boat has left Brookside Lake Resort on Duck Lake in Grawn, Michigan this afternoon. I guess this means our sailing season is over....
...OK, you all know if that phone rings tomorrow, one of our sailboats is going swimming! LoL

It's been quite a season for Tempest Sailing this year! Again, we are so grateful for the opportunity and hosting by Brookside Lake Resort this year and look forward to an exciting next year.

Lots of fun in the works with new sailing events next season - regattas, adventure sails, first sailing events and, of course, parades and festivals! We also are working on offering onsite rentals for some of the hotels on the bay in Traverse City next season. AND we will be offering more boats and different sailboat designs next season.

Tempest Sailing is also entertaining the idea of workshops on subjects like maintainace, mast stepping, trailer maneuvering, sail care, etc. For some of these topics, we would love to involve/host our partners and sponsors who can provide their expertise of their craft to our students and those interested.

I cannot say thank you enough for all of the support from both the sailing community and our local communities. You all are key to make Tempest Sailing possible and successful!

So long Omena, sleep tight under your winter wraps with your Tempest Sailing siblings. Next year....

Tempest Sailing's boatyard this fall. Yes, 30+ boats with several sold and sailing again.

With the exception of the dark blue C22 and the Hobie 16 next to it (customer refurbishment boats), all are donations and are in various states of completion. Some are done,. A lot are cleanup and light repair, but others are more indepth "rescues". What isn't shown are our children's sailboats - Sunfishes, Lasers, Phantoms, small sloops and catamarans. They are all here now and aren't leaving until they are done - I really don't want them back 2 years after I let them go...๐Ÿ˜‰

About 80% of these are from this year alone. We are aiming too have most of these ready for, or during, our next sailing season. They will be used for sailing lessons, new sailor boats and rentals, all of which a significant portion of proceeds are invested in Tempest Sailing Forward (our 501c3 Organization) to support our Children's, Senior Citizen and Disabled programs.

It has been an incredible year full with fantastic volunteers, new students, Senior Sails, our first Regatta hosted by Brookside Cottages and Resort, 2 parade appearances, the Leelanau Maritime History Festival and lots of boat cleaning... and next year looks to provide more exciting opportunities.

We are so appreciative of all of the support provided by some very generous people and organizations who also believe in our mission: Proliferating the sport of sailing for everyone by creating new knowledgeable sailors and keeping sailboats out of landfills...one sailor, one boat at a time.

Please keep us in mind next sailing season, we would love to get you out on the water! Whether it is your first time or maybe you want one more sail. We can make it happen!
