We were replacing an oil pan gasket on this customer’s 2014 335i with the N55 engine and look what we found in the bottom of the oil pan. The shiny flakes are exactly that, aluminum flakes that are coming from either a rod bearing or a crankshaft bearing. The customer recently replaced and oil filter housing gasket all on his own and these engines are knowing or having problems afterwards. We may have caught this just before the engine self-destructed!
