Happy Halloween! 🎃 As you collect your favorite treats tonight, don't let stray candy wrappers turn into a spooky surprise for our ocean!

Small plastic wrappers, glow sticks, and snack bags dropped on the sidewalk are easily swept into our storm drains by wind or rain.

🍬Trick-or-Treat Tip: Keep wrappers tucked tight inside buckets or pockets until you get home.

Have a safe, fun, and trash-free Halloween with your ʻohana!

Watch out for flying phantoms on the road! 👻

When loads aren't secured, plastic bags, cardboard boxes, or pieces of rubbish can fly out of the bed and onto our roadways. Eventually, rain sweeps those lost items right into our storm drains, turning highway trash into an ocean-pollution nightmare.

Don't let your trash come back to haunt our waters! Always tie down your load. Throw a tarp or cargo net over loose items (like yard waste and recyclables) and secure it with heavy-duty ratchet straps.

✨ Here’s a small act that can make a big difference: A quick 2-minute check prevents a lifetime of pollution. Pack it right to haul safe! 🚚

Mark your calendars! 📅 Saturday, October 24 is Make a Difference Day!

Did you know a single wrapper dropped from a pocket or blown out of a car window can travel miles? When litter lands on our streets, wind and rain sweep it straight into storm drains, through our streams, and out to the kai (ocean).

Host a local cleanup this October to help keep our waterways clear! Gather a group of friends, your student club, or your ʻohana and make a day out of it.

Read our blog to learn how you can host your own cleanup and make a big impact this October!

Double, double, toil and trouble… your car could be brewing spooky toxic sludge – petroleum and motor oil 🧙‍♀️🧪

If a leaky car drips oil onto the pavement, it sits there until the next rainstorm washes it down the storm drain. Because most of the water isn't treated, that toxic potion flows directly into the ocean, poisoning our marine life and habitats.

✨ Here’s a small act that can make a big difference: Take your car in for regularly-scheduled maintenance and check under your car for leaks often. If you spot one, slide a drip pan or piece of cardboard underneath to catch the oil until you can get it properly repaired.

Fix the leak, save the reef! 🛠️🌊
