When we pay our taxes, in exchange we have the expectation that the government will take care of us- keep us from theft, violence, hurricanes, tsunamis and fire. This administration has failed all America.n citizens except the ones currently sitting in the White House, the Senate and Congress. Cities are being luted with no repurcussions. Violence in Chicago is now the absolute norm. Kids are being killed daily in drive by shootings and stray bullets, no one can afford their groceries or homes, and of course- look at Maui. Our administration is fine with millions coming through the border and then using our taxes to pay for their hotel rooms, food, etc, but we can’t get money to the people of Maui? Biden have people $700 each while FEMA and all of the other workers who were sent to Maui are staying in the nicest hotels where one night is more expensive than $700. And of course- totally ok with sending $24 billion more to Ukraine. If that $24 billion was divided up amongst the people of Lahaina- that would be $500k for every family.
This is wrong. It’s all wrong. Our country is falling apart. Every American should be spitting mad. The people of Maui and the whole state of Hawaii are mad. And I pray that in the next election we will finally do something about it here.
Also- if the government here tries to pin this on HECO or climate change- they are deflecting all accountability. Because if it’s climate change- then they aren’t accountable- we are. They can flip the script. The truth is that our loca government were supposed to keep the people on Maui safe, but instead they didn’t monitor HECO or pay attention to warnings over the last several years that this could happen. They could have gotten rid of the non native grass that burns like kindling here, or strategic burns to get rid of all the under brush, or set of the alarm system here, or had a swift way to have water released to Maui from local streams rather than get tied up in beauracratic bu****it. Of course climate change is an issue- but we knew - and yet every year they do nothing to mitigate it- they just come up with more laws to control us instead- like what cars we can drive, what ovens we can have in our homes, and soon they will pile on more controls for us under the guise of our “safety”. This wasn’t climate change- this was our government not doing its job. I want my tax dollars back. They have failed.
