HOLYOKE, Colo. — The ASCS Gunsmoke Region made the tow west to Phillips County Raceway on Saturday, May 23, joining the ASCS Western Plains Region for a non-point showdown in Holyoke, Colorado. A 13-car field signed in for the winged sprint car program, and when the night was complete, it was Kyler Johnson and the 45X team out of Quinter, Kansas, standing tall in victory lane.
Johnson showed speed early in the night, charging from fourth to win the opening heat race. Heat race two went to Bryan Gossel of Windsor, Colorado in the 6G, with Taylor Milton of Fargo, Oklahoma finishing second in the 68 and Jetmore, Kansas’ Kelby Fetters completing the top three in the 88K.
In the feature, Johnson backed up his heat-race performance in dominating fashion. Starting from the outside of the front row, the 45X took control and drove to the ASCS sprint car victory. Blurton advanced from fourth to second to make it a Quinter one-two finish, while Bryan Gossel completed the podium after starting on the pole.
Behind the podium, Wiedeman finished fourth in the 1X, while Austyn Gossel turned in the hard-charger performance of the night. Gossel rolled off 13th and drove all the way to fifth, gaining eight positions to complete the top five.
