Volusia County Towing Management Team would like to Commend LD Driver John Walker on his quick thinking on Wednesday Evening around 7:30pm in the Northbound Lane of Williamson Blvd in Daytona between Madeline and Beville Road when he noticed a vehicle parked on the side of the road in an awkward position.
With John's quick thinking he turned around and stopped to check on a driver of a motor vehicle that was slumped over the steering wheel of the below pictured vehicle while the vehicle was in the Reverse setting and running. At that point John contacted his supervisor and alerted them of the situation he had come across as VCT Management contacted Volusia County Communications and gave them details as watching the incident on the Wreckers dash camera in real time providing the dispatcher with up to date information and GPS coordinates of the wreckers location. while waiting on the police to arrive on the scene John performed a chest rub to try and wake the operator of the motor vehicle with success he was able to wake the operator up and ask that he place the vehicle in the park position and turn off the car at that point the operator gave the VCT Driver the keys to the vehicle to prevent him from driving away from the accident location.
VC Dispatch was able to dispatch out Port Orange Police Department and Fire Rescue to the scene where it had appeared that the operator of the Motor Vehicle was under the influence at that point it was determined that the incident was located in the City of Daytona and the Daytona Beach Police Department was contacted to come to the scene.
if it was not for John stopping to check on the vehicle things could have gotten a bit more serious. Thank you John for looking out for the community and taking your time to make sure the Motor vehicle operator was ok.
This is a prime example as to why having cameras in a commercial/private vehicle is a great tool to have
A dense fog advisory has been issued for Volusia County. Motorists are advised to use caution.
Heads up! Sunday's CLASH Daytona triathlon will impact traffic in the Daytona Beach area.
The event includes a bike race on U.S. 92 between Daytona Beach and DeLand.
Here are the details:
This weekend the Daytona International Speedway will host hundreds of triathletes for CLASH Daytona, an endurance sports festival previously known as Challenge Daytona. The main event is Sunday, Dec. 5, and features a mid-distance race where the world’s best triathletes will compete for one of the largest prize purses in the sport. Prize money will be shared among the top men and women professionals from around the world. There will also be races for athletes of all ages and abilities as part of the weekend’s activities. Spectators are welcome to attend the events.
Sunday’s competition starts with a 1.2-mile swim in the 29-acre Lake Lloyd, followed by a 56-mile bike ride throughout streets in Daytona Beach, west on U.S. 92 to DeLand and back to the speedway, followed by a 11.2-mile run at the world-famous track.
Motorists can expect major traffic delays along the route of the bike race from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Motorists coming to Daytona Beach from DeLand are encouraged to take alternate routes including I-4, S.R. 40 and S.R. 44, instead of U.S. 92.
Daytona Beach Police Department will close most intersections on the course with assistance from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol and law enforcement officers from Port Orange and New Smyrna Beach.

Such sad new to hear a Florida Icon Winter the dolphin has passed away due to a gastrointestinal infection RIP Winter
With heavy hearts, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium announced tonight that Winter the Dolphin died at approximately 8 p.m. as animal care experts from around the country worked to treat her gastrointestinal abnormality. The CMA family is devastated.
During preparation for a procedure, the CMA Animal Care team observed that Winter’s behavior and vital signs were declining. The medical team tried several life-saving efforts, but she died being held by her caregivers.
“While we are heartbroken by Winter’s death, we are comforted knowing that our team did everything possible to give her the best chance at survival. We worked with specialists and marine mammal experts from around the country to provide her with the best care available. Our staff worked around the clock during this challenging time,” said Veterinarian Dr. Shelly Marquardt, DVM, CVA. “I’m honored to work alongside such dedicated and talented professionals who gave their all for Winter.”
The CMA team expresses our deepest gratitude to the thousands of people from around the world who sent caring messages for Winter. She truly inspired hope and was loved by millions of people worldwide.
Winter, we love you.
CMA will be closed on Friday to provide time for our staff to grieve. A grief counselor will be made available to the team.
Plans for a memorial for Winter, honoring the positive impact she made on the world, will be announced soon.
